Did anyone make New Years Food Resolutions related to food. I didn't
make any as in diet since I don't believe in dieting and have no need to but I did make a few food related goals. I plan to experiment more with a wider variety of mustards and hot sauces. I want to experiment more with wild rice dishes and rices in general. I want to eat at one of Emeril's restaurants but that might have to wait while they rebuild New Orleans. We were thinking of a trip there in May so perhaps that will be a possibility. This year, I plan to focus on French Canadian cooking. My main goal is to try one new dish a week not necessarily French Canadian but something totally different that I've never made before. Oh, and I plan to do more baking aside of bread and muffins. ~patches~ --> off to do a little research while a rather old fashioned pork roast finishes in the oven; pork is a French Canadian staple but this is just a plain old roast |

I made a resolution to focus on French Candadian cooking via a trip to Prince Edward Island and Lobster, Lobster, Lobster every single meal I can get. There will not be much food research done other than that. Got any tips regarding what month to go that I won't freeze my tail off? Since I can't fly (lymphedema problems), we will start from f-i-l's home in CT and drive, hoping to see Bah-Hahbah, which I've never seen. The furtherst northeast I've been in U.S. is Rockland, ME. Are all of Emeril's restaurant's in NO? It would be nice if he'd have one in the northeast. Dee Dee |

It's compressor went out about six months ago, so all but very small amount of foods were lost. Already it's nagain jam packed, and I made such a big amount of soup today that seven single meal containers of it went in there. Hah! I'm doing great on my resolution, she said.... PickyPicks |

I know HOW to do it, I just don't want to do it. The last time I tried to quit smoking was the same month I went on the pill. Suddenly I'm dating a guy after all the girls and there are all these things I just never had to think about, like avoiding babies. So I gon on the pill and david freaks that I'm immediately going to get a clot and have a stroke or something if I smoke so i quit smoking. Such a bad idea. The pill made me crazy and the lack of cigarettes made me angry. I didn't avoid pregnancy because of chemistry, I didn't get pregnat because I couldn't ****ing get laid! I'm off the pill and back on cigarettes and it may not be healthier but I am happier. When I lost the weight I ate lean meats if at all, fish, only whole grains, no white bread or pasta, lots of fake meat things like tofu and seitan. It really worked. It wasn't a strict diet or anythign, it was just making better choices about food. Thing is, I like it, I like to do it and I don't want to quit right now. Their climate would be the same as most places in the NE this time of year. While you're there, there are several churches that put on lobster suppers. St. Annes, I think, is one. We ended up going to Fisherman's Wharf in North Rustico. They have a 60 foot long hot and cold salad bar that goes along with their dinners. Due to cost constraints, this was the only lobster dinner we had. It came to about 65.oo cdn funds. If you plan to tour the island, there is a nice cafe at Shipwreck Cove. When we were there, they had a lemon sole lunch special that was really nice. I don't know if they do lobster. They also have a lighthouse tour route. We did that as we skirted the whole island and visited all the ones that were open to the public. My dh was lightkeeper in our small village for 13 years, so the interest in them. Be sure to pick up the tourist guides and maps. It's a really nice place to spend time and the locals are really friendly. We're back-roaders and like to get off the beaten path. Lots of neat areas, but beware of the red dirt....lol....the new white-wall tires on our camper are now stained a pale pink....lol Let us know what you find in your travels. ![]() After losing a lot of weight in 2004 and learning to maintain in 2005, I hope to continue making maintentace easier. One way to do so will be by eating better quality foods (i.e. buying ingredients of better-than-supermarket-quality). Quality to replace quantity. I am looking forward to special cheeses. And to opening that bottle of liquid smoke that I finally found in a store here. |

We drove Novia Scotia for about a week in 1993 and never thought we would go back on that kind of vacation again since we fell in love with Montreal. It was a nice time and plain, delicious food. Go the the welcome centre and pick up the enlarged map of the island. I don't know if you get the food network show "Chef at Home" or not, but he lives on the island in a small town called Fortune, near Rollo Bay. You can get glimpses of the gulf and coastline at times on the show. The only cities of any size are Charlottetown and Summerside, but many small towns and villages abound. Take note of the churches...mostly white clapboard with black trim. And the architecture of rural homes. I could go on, but I better not. If you would like any more tips, email me privately. No, we don't get 'Chef at Home.' I do wish we were able to see more foodnetwork shows that Europe and Canada get. But am glad to get what I do. Will make soon for mid-afternoon lunch/dinner: New recipe for the Costco pork chops bought yesterday (perhaps 12 of them.) Then I'll vacuum and freeze what we don't eat. Chops to fill crock pot 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup chopped celery 1 cup catsup 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup lemon juice 2 tablespoons brown sugar 3 tablespoons Worcester sauce 2 tablespoons vinegar 1 tablespoons mustart 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper Mix together and pour over meat in pot. Cook until tender. Low 7-8 hours or high 3-4 hours. |
