So, wanting high quality, healthful foods is foolish, and being willing
and able to pay a bit extra is also foolish? It's always telling when
someone knocks things they cannot appreciate and/or afford.

They do have a lot of good quality items, esp. their prepared and
fresh (produce, meats) foods. I couldn't afford to shop there every
day but it's nice for foogling (food oogling)and to pick up a few
treats once in a while when I'm in the neighborhood.

I'm lucky to live in area where I can find great or better food for a
half or a third the price of WF.

Now who looks foolish, Peter?

They opened near me about 18 months ago and I'm delighted, particularly
with their meat and fish, things which before I'd been buying on the
internet to get what I wanted. Oddly, their produce is not always up
to snuff although when I bitched about it they sent me a nice letter
and a $25 certificate! There are things which are cheap; watch for the
365 line of products. We go there a couple of times a week.

Their 365 balsamic vinegar was rated better than many that cost several
times as much. Been cooking with it for years. If you're using grocery
store balsamic vinegar, you won't believe the difference! And less than
$5 a bottle.

I can only go about once a month, so this is very good on my budget. Also I
go there AFTER I have purchased my produce at the Asian market and I am not
tempted to spend too foolishly and I buy only organic food value priced. I
go to Wegman's less often, and I find their organic items are less expensive
and they have more variety (in Pennsylvania). I am always 'shopped out' to
hit Wegman's in Fairfax after I've already shopped Asian Market, Trader
Joes, Whole Foods with a 2 hour drive ahead of me. I should go to Wegman's
next trip.

One thing I don't like is that if you find a product brand you like in Whole
Foods, in all likelihood, you'll never see it again -- I've been
disappointed too many times.

Their meat department rocks. They have some of the best chickens.

I like that line - and other things I can't find nearby, I can find at
WF. Sure, if I went into the city I could get whatever I wanted
cheaper, but I don't want to spend my time that way, nor my money on
gas. I love WF!

I love/hate Whole Paycheck.

The one by Union Square, NYC is the most surreal. It's on two
levels but all free aisle space on the entire street level is occupied
by people waiting in the checkout lines, snaking through the entire
store. I've never seen anything like it.
