Whenever I tell people that I have a bread machine they scoff and say "no one
ever uses their bread machine!". I do. I use it all the time. It's one of the
appliances that rarely leaves the counter because I love it.

I have "The Ultimate Bread Machine Cookbook" by Tom LaCalamita and that's
where I get most of my recipes from. It has everything from plain white to
hand shaped loaves to recipes for danishes and coffee cakes. You can tell I
use it too much because it's completely falling apart on me.

I forgot to mention that this makes a big loaf. If you have a smaller machine
or want a smaller loaf these are the amounts to use
3/4 cup plus 1 tsp water
4 tsp molasses
1 tsp lemon juice

2 cups bread flour
1/3 cup rolled oats
1 tsp salt
2 tsp dark brown sugar
4 tsp powdered milk
2 tsp butter

1 1/2 tsp yeast

I had one when I was younger (when I first moved out on my own) and my
roommates *loved* me because they woke up to the smell of baking bread
every morning.

Thanks; I'll have to look for that.

I use mine a lot, too, especially in the summer when running the oven
would generate a lot more heat than would be comfortable.

I just told my partners I'm gonna buy a bread machine today (at the
thrift store) and they laughed. I've turned down several of them in
the name of keeping clutter down, but I finally caved to my desire for
one. James says if this is how I deal with my mommylonging (our
shorthand for this nesting impulse I get from time to time where I do
a lot of baking and I have a deep desire to have a baby), then he's
all for it. :-)

The bread is cooling on the counter as I type this. It smells so good.

The shop was closed (the one where I saw a new-in-box bread machine
for ten dollars the other day), but I'll try again tomorrow.

do it, it's wonderful!
it's a nice chewy bread and the muscadine jelly goes wonderfully.

The way bread disappears in this house, I'll stay with the larger recipe!
Thanks so much for posting.

Perhaps I ought to get a bread machine one day, and yet, I've always used my
trusty KitchenAid-with-dough-hook with nary a problem. Besides, I'm nothing
if not loyal . . .
