Default Waterpik Filtration System! Warning!

Don't know if you like to take showers in the kitchen, but I've had two
compliments of the Waterpik Faucent Filtration System. Got tired of
the pitcher and thought it would be of some benefit, until the plastic
of both filters and attachment "hardware" developed cracks sending
water everywhere.

Our pressure's normal and nothing was over-tightened. The plastic
simply developed cracks and in non-pressurized locations.

There's no warranty service here in the mid south, but I forced Home
Depot to take the first one back only to have the second system develop
the same cracks in the filter. Wasn't too bad, just an annoying drip,
until the tightening ring simply exploded.

Ironically Waterpik says there's a lifetime warranty on this particular
model. Don't think I'll drive to St. Louis to find out. I'll just let
the forty bucks be my lifetime exclusion of Waterpik products.

What kind of warranty service would you expect anyway? You installed it
yourself. The warranty provides for replacement, not labor cost, right? If a
plumber installed it, then the situation would be a little more complicated.

Ask them to give you another product for free. Their shower products hold up
nicely.

Did you put in the tubing inserts?

99% of the time, tubes leak and crack because people put the tubes into the
fittings without putting the little inserts into the end of the plastic tube
first.
The compression collar will not seat properly without the inserts fully
seated, and when the nut is tightened, the collar will cut and split the
tubes/ the ends will draw out and the loose tube will spray everything in
sight. And sometimes without an insert, the nut goes farther down the
threads than it is designed for, cracking the nut.

Did you overtighten?
If it's the big nuts on the ends of the system, they have very specific
tightening requirements - some with o-rings say no wrenches and only
finger-tight, others say 1/4 turn after finger tight. The tube definitely
needs to be fully seated in the fitting before the nut is even turned.

And it is possible that you got a "new" fitting that has an insert built
into it - and while some think integrated sleeves are a great idea, the
built-in insert cuts the ends of the tube and starts a split more often than
the damn integrated insert is worth. They have come into vogue several
times, and have been discarded just as many times.

fwiw...

Did you call them: I has a problem with a filter tat was out of warranty
and I called and they took care of it. Before you bitch about it, try them
and see what kind of service they give you.

Tried their web site a couple of times but it seems to stonewall
against any personal contact either email or telephone. And there is
no authorized service dealer in the adjoining five states. I'll look
again on the web site and my registration information.

Yeap, on two different sets. All using light pressure which is
appropriate to 0-rings and plastic plumbing connections.
>

Nope, I had the connections secure with no leaks. On both sets that I
installed the first problem was tiny hairline cracks in the filter. One
on the top sent a fine spray skyward whenever the filter was used. The
other developed a leak that may have come from the filter connection,
seeping up the side then dripping into the sink.

But the coup d grace came when a good inch of the large white nut
simply broke off. Hence the kitchen shower.

It's got to be defective plastic, maybe the same stuff those water
heater dip tubes were made from in the 90's. Remember them?

What happened to the packaging that came with these things? Certainly there
would be contact information there somewhere.
