I have owned for many a year a soup toureen and serving platter as shown in
the below links.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=284507

After buying them, I never had a clue as to what I could cook in the soup
toureen or how to go about cooking any recipe in the soup toureen. I used
it for "serving only" soups a few times at the table, but decided that was
silly because I had bought it as a cooking utensil. Then I decided that I
was concerned about health considerations in cooking with aluminum.

I still have the information about it. "They may be used in the oven as
well as on the table for eating and drinking" they are sand cast in
Non-toxic ARMETALE metal. No two pieces are alike. ARMETALE metal is a
fusion in precise proportions of ten different metals.

Wondering if anyone has actually used this tureen to cook anything 'in.'
Thanks so much,
Dee Dee

Back in the 1970s I had several smaller pieces or Armetale, but I never
cooked in any of it. After discovering that it could not be washed in the
dishwasher, I gave them all away. How did I discover this? Don't know if
there was a warning, but I also had a brand new set of Armetale flatware.
After the first use, I put the pieces in the dishwasher. They were all
pitted and ruined.

Thanks for your reply, Wayne. (Hope you are doing well on you WW program.)

I've not washed mine in the dishwasher. On the platter I did cut some
meat -- perhaps porterhouse, since when I bought it, it was in my "salad
days"(back in the 70's, too) -- and it did scratch something horribly.

I did for a while use the tureen as a container for fruit on a 'side' table.
Perhaps I'll just use it for this again. No sense sitting around. I still
think they are sorta nice looking still.

Yes, thank, down 20 lbs.

Yes, it's not knife friendly.

I think you easily could use it in the oven to cook/heat something and
serve in it. I wouldn't use it on the stove top or put in the dishwasher.
