As I indicated in a post last week, Jonesboro, Arkansas is located in a
major bass-ackwards county where you can't buy liquor by the drink in any but a few restaurants. Those restaurants require you to become a "member" to satisfy the ABC/liquor licensing authorities before you can get so much as a glass of wine with your meal. Totally archaic but there you have it. Thursday night we got spiffed up and headed over to the 501 Club. This is actually also a prime steak house. I think because the token membership fee is $5, Brian or someone was joking about it being a "really classy place". Actually, it is ![]() John bought us a membership and we were seated. Yes, we'd each like a nice glass of chardonnay. As we perused the menu, the server came back with some nice crusty bread and butter and our glasses of wine. We ordered some creamed spinach dip for our bread while we were trying to decide what to order. The dip was delicious. John ordered the prime filet minon (rare) with a baked potato and steamed broccoli. I ordered the veal piccata with rice pilaf and steamed mixed vegetables (mostly broccoli and cauliflower florets). I've never before encountered veal piccata topped with sauteed mushrooms. It was delicious, just not quite what I've had in the past (nor what I've prepared at home). The sauce was very lemony but not overly tart; quite nice. The name "501 Club" conjurs up images of a dance-club from the 1980's but it was really nicely elegant and quiet. Jill |
