Our granddaughter is due here for a visit tomorrow and we're looking forward
to seeing her. She lives with her Marine husband on the Camp Pendleton base
in CA so we don't see her often.

Surprise! Surprise! She is involved with making us great-grandparents.
(I knew it would happen one day but boy, it makes me feel ancient.)

So - she is "eating healthy". I'm having baked cut-up chicken with some
light breading and seasoning, potatoes au gratin (OK??) and a large salad.
I had my doubts about the potatoes, but they're good. I have fresh fruit
for dessert. How does that sound? DH has already made his run to the
market, so that's it in the shopping department.

Congratulations! Dora (and to the rest of the family)

Sooo... does this mean we have to address you as Great-Gran Dora from
now on? - or GGD for brevity?

From another person who is also "eating healthy" (at least trying to, as I'm
"eating for three" now), I think that sounds yummy!

I would think it would be wonderful You may want to ask her if she
has any "issues" with food. When I was pregnant there were things that
I couldn't even stand the site or smell of. There were also things that
I wanted to eat all the time. She may be one of the lucky ones that
isn't feeling sick often (i just wasn't lol)

As far as what "experts" say - I think there are only a few things they
suggest limiting. Certain fish, go light on eggs and nuts....that's all
I can remember at the moment

Congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful visit

Mazel Tov! Your dinner plans sound good to me. When I was pregnant I
lived on Thai takeout and french fries with creamy caesar dressing,
though, so I'm no expert on healthy eating

It's a really special week. Not just her visit, but her brother gets home
from Iraq on Sunday after being debriefed at Camp Lejeune. What a relief -
he has been stationed in Baghdad, Ramahdi and Fallujah. Not exactly
peaceful spots. The kid's only 20 and has already lived a lifetime.
Anyway, he and his sister will only be reunited for a day before she takes
off for CA - he was delayed in getting his leave. We're thankful he's OK,
though.

Thank you! I hope they work well for you! I don't understand "regular"
(as opposed to those who write cookbooks that they sell) cooks not
sharing the recipes they use. Teach a man to fish, right? One thing I am
not very experienced with is desserts, so I've been making more cakes
and pies and stuff lately. The buttermilk cake is *so* good! I think I'm
going to make one for my birthday instead of the carrot cake with cream
cheese frosting I made last year.

The buttermilk cake is the first think that caught my eye! And I do agree
about sharing recipes.

Sounds good to me, except for the potatoes...I don't do potatoes with cheese

What seasonings are you using for the chicken? I made chicken breasts last
night with lemon and garlic, we had them with pitas and salad.

It all depends on how far along she is & if she has any food adversions
or indigestion issues. For example, I'm 19 weeks along now & it was
just the last couple weeks that I have been able to eat any sort of
meat. :-) Serve what you have planned though (sounds good to me!), she
will probably eat from your menu of what sounds good to her.

Woo-hoo!!!!

Congratulations and the meal sounds great! I'm sure that she'll appreciate
that you kept her thoughts/concerns in mind. I know that I'm always tickled
when any of my relatives keep my food interests in mind.
