Default Oh Dee R, I forgot

Sorry, I forgot to mention a couple more things. Where the house is we
have a lot of wild life. I think about the only thing that I haven't
seen so far in the yard has been deer but they are in the area. So far
this year - ermine, musk rat, wild rabbits, that wiley rabbit, field
mice, racoons, skunk, fox, a variety of small birds, and a large variety
of water fowl. Also we have to drive to our boat slip which is why food
is packed into a cooler. It's kind of a pain because we have to
transfer the food to the boat fridge and normally leave the cooler
behind except for weekend trips. We can cook on board but when the boat
is anchored in the water instead of docked, it moves a lot so for day
trips, I don't cook on board. A lot of the places we stop while boating
have interesting wild animals on shore but sometimes we just swim around
the boat without going to shore. A lot of the waters we boat on have
good fishing too. What impresses me the most is how relaxing the
lifestyle is. Basically the house is a pit stop July and August. I
always bring a little extra food because DH will come up with "let's
just anchor here overnight" sometimes. My neighbours are really good
that if they notice we didn't come home that night, they will water the
gardens if needed.

ObFood: I have a chicken roasting in the oven right now. One of my
kids asked me if I could roast it as the kid had't done one before.
Once roasted it will be cooled then returned to the kid for deboning. I
know the kid knows how to do that. I'll have to walk the kid through
roasting a chicken though. The kid routinely bakes and grills chicken
breasts and has seen me do roasted chicken a gizillion times but for
some reason is intimidated by roating a whole chicken! I'll just have
to help fix that little problem

Sounds like a beautiful life you have. As far as water goes, we have lived
so close by water, -- you know, like across the street from the beach, or a
water view, etc. DH's family on one side thru the centuries have owned
their own ships and were, of course, the sea captains on them, and a couple
of them were lost at sea -- I have a list of all the ships that they owned
over the years.

When I saw the movie "Perfect Storm" it really brought a lot of this home to
me -- their life at sea and how critical. One or two of the captains did a
lot of cooking and entertaining and even had a restaurant in the late 1800's
nearby the home.

We will never live on the water -- or near the water again -- but we always
say when we're near water when we go to CT, etc. (knowing we won't or can't
afford, etc etc), wouldn't it be nice to live near the water again. When
we're in CT, when we are not in New Haven we are in little places like this
looking for a place to enjoy (9-22-05) http://tinypic.com/s6ivpz.jpg Yes,
that's me -- I put it here as an encouragement for others to show their
face -- I've seen a few persons' pics here, but not many. I know we all
wish we could look better -- tee hee.

And thanks for the extra paragraphs of your life on the water! It's fun to
read.

Add plenty of bears to your animal list, and several does with fawns (one
has three), and that is my backyard 24/7, except in winter.. It's a 40 yard
walk down to the dock I've had bears climb in my boat and my pickup truck.

I keep my video camera set up on a tripod and record wildlife through my
kitchen window. I'd bet I have the only video of a Great Blue Heron stalking
a chipmunk the whole 40 yards before snatching it, taking it down to the
lake, and drowning it before swallowing it.

That sounds cool! :-)
I'd like to see that.
I did not know that Heron's stalked mammals!

Musta been a slow, stupid or sick chipmunk?????
