King Arthur sells a whole bunch of scone mixes:

True, but you hardly need a mix to bake scones. I'd rather not pay for
someone else to throw everything in a box when I've got it in the pantry.

The mixes might be good for trying something new for the family, but my
wife often cooks for 50-100 people, so mixes get a little expensive.

Both good points. It would get *very* expensive for those numbers.

What do you add to the mix? My pkg doesn't have a recipe for scones.

I also sometimes use Bisquick when I'm in a hurry. To the standard
biscuit recipe, I add 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and either use
cream in place of milk, or add 2 tablespoons melted butter along with the
milk. A half cup of dried fruit is a nice addition, too.

My friend gave me one in a goodie basket. I have to say that it has the
same off chemically taste of other baking mixes. Some people don't
notice it or like it; but I don't care for it.

I think a plain scone would tell you if you like them or not. If I could
get clotted cream like back home here in Ontario I wouldn't use anything
else. Unfortunately, what's available is a poor 2nd to real clotted cream
you get in England. I've had both.

I make my own baking mix (bisquik) So there are no preservatives and
therefore when I make scones with it no aftertaste either.
