You're justifying their position midway down the slippery slope.

Panera pretending it's a high-quality bread shop might as well be
McDonald's pretending their burgers are 100% chuck.

And Panera, from the name on down, pretends it's a high-quality bread
shop.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out that I have never
been impressed with Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Sprouts, or Wild Oats.
