Margaret, et al,

Do you know about T.J.'s postings on the Web? There's a new one out
today (see above) and, as usual, it lists so many good things. I have
already copied down a list of 11 things I am going to get
tomorrow--Without even mentioning the Two-Buck Chuck. (:-)

Cheers, and happy shopping.

Thank you, Nancree, I am already making a list for my next shopping
trip. I want to get the Wasabi peas for a friend and the Caesar
Salad, just to try whether it is better than the one I make (I am
certain it will be). I also want to get the potstickers, they sound
as if they are delicious.

I will get to TJ's on Friday and I will also check out their new wine
shop. I have not been there as yet.

Thank you, I will bookmark your gift now. Then I will go back to it
and peruse it in leisure.

Hi, Thanks.
Would you mind checking to see if they have any steel-cut oats? I haven't
seen the Country Choice brand they carry for a long time now - a few months.
I was there in Darien CT Friday. I was reduced to buy McCann's today at
Wegman's in Pennsylvania. Twice the price, I believe. I love the Country
Choice.

Gladly, Dee Dee. I will let you know as soon as I find out. Are you
interested in any other Brand or only Country Choice?

What? No McCann's, either? Our TJ carries both and even the McCann's
is half the price of regular supers.

Thanks, Only Country Choice. -- so far they are my favorite steel-cut
oats.

Oh, in case anyone else is reading this:
Someone mentioned that TJ's sold Paneer cheese marketed as an Indian
cheese -- which it is -- but in CT, they didn't carry it. I'll check at
TJ's in VA next time I'm there. Probably more likely to find it there as
there is a big Indian community.

Also, TJ's say that on-line that they carry rennet in the 3 various forms (I
would assume in their stores), but Darien, CT, say they have discontinued
this also. I was able to find the rennet I wanted at Wegman's, Bethlehem,
PA.

Someone on this neg mentioned liking their simmer sauces. They have
discontinued Moroccan tangine, but I was able to buy: Calcutta Masala,
Mujito; Punjab Spinach; Indian Korma; Green Curry. I think all of these
might come under the category of simmer sauce. I'm looking forward to
these. Thanks again.

Thanks, Margaret,
Dee Dee

No McCann's at TJ's, Darien, CT; but Wegman's $5.99 a can.
TJ's (Country Choice) steel-cut oats were $2.49, but I don't recall the
weight.
My best guess is that McCann's is probably twice that price -- although
anyone can prove me wrong if they are so inclined :-))))

Margaret, if you don't mind, please pick me up a bottle of the wine they
call "two buck chuck" which is a cheap red wine. One bottle is fine. I
will pay you when I see you on Monday. I would love to try that wine,
but none of the TJ's in my area is licensed to sell wine.

Thanks,

Stan

I am 99% sure TJ's does sell steel coat oats. I think I was looking at a
container of them a couple of weeks ago.

On the subject of Trader Joe's, I helped a friend last night cater a
formal dinner for about 12 people who attended an event at a Buddhist
Shambala Center. The dinner was a great success.

Almost all of the ingredients were purchased at the Trader Joe's in
Philadelphia, not far from where the Shamballa Center is located. We had
homemade vegetarian lasagna, which my friend who organized the event
prepared before I got there, a green salad which I made from various
TJ's ingredients, and various cheeses and crackers, plus a variety of
different wines. We also served various types of TJ's cookies with a
fruit dip and also crushed frozen raspberries for dessert. We also put
out some fresh mozarella in olive oil, and pinwheels of proscuito with
cheese, plus some bowls of nuts and candied fruits.

We had a total of 13 people for dinner (including the three of us who
prepared the meal) and we all had a nice time. As far as I know, the
only items on the menu that did not come from TJ's were the garlic bread
and the wine.

Stan, Will do, if they have it in stock. I heard they keep on
selling out.

Did you ever receive my answer to your questions about restaurants for
your sister and brother in law, in the Times Square area? I am sorry
that I could not help you. (

Sounds like a wonderful dinner. It's a shame that you weren't able to get
the garlic bread and wine, which are available at other Trader Joe's.

Alas, Two-buck Chuck now costs three bucks!

The Cabernet is very drinkable. Didn't like the Shiraz/Syrah.

Two Buck Chuck is $3.29 in Virginia.
Sauvignon Blanc is one that we won't buy again.
We will buy Chardonnay.
We usually drink red wines, so my white wine suggestion probably should be
taken with caution.
I have tried all the red wines, but I'd rather buy a $4.99 acceptable bottle
of a different brand at Trader Joe's than Shaw's at $3.29

Whereabouts? It's $1.99 in Northern California (plus tax), unless the
price has gone
up since Saturday. It's $2.99 in Portland, OR (or at least it was 2
weeks ago).

In case you have me kf'd or didn't read it all, I just posted:
$3.29 in Centerville, VA and has been since they opened in Nov 2005.

I don't have you kf'd. (I post through Google so I can't kf - even if I
wanted
to, which I don't.) Our posts were just a few minutes apart, so I don't
think
I had seen your post about the Virginia price when I posted my reply to
Tom Yost.

Stanley, There is a bottle of the cheapie Merlot waiting for you.
The two dollar bottle costs $2.99 plus taxes. Several of the people
in the store said that it is the Shiraz that everybody likes, but they
are out of it. Tom Yost posted that he does not like the Shiraz.

The store itself was empty of customers on Tuesday about 11:30 AM.

From there, I went into the TJ'S store itself. I had changed a great
deal since I was there on the opening day and a week later. Many of
the items I had purchases on my first two shopping trips, were not
available, some sold out and some just not there. I found no plain
Ceasar Salad, no plan potato salad (both for friends who asked me to
pick those up), several cookies and breads and in the section where
they had salads, sandwiches and other lunch related foods, the
chillers and shelves were half empty. The first two times, as soon as
an item was starting to sell out, new supplies would be brought and
the shelves and chillers would be filled. Nothing like that happened
today. I was told got such things as the salads and sandwiches, to
come early, the next delivery was not expected until late in the
afternoon or early tomorrow morning.

Dee Dee, I found your Steel Cut Oats. Country Choice, 30 ounces for
$2.49. The McCann's in a 28 ounce box is $4.79.

Also, there were no "helpers" on the floor, not a single TJ's employee
could be found. When I went to the front of the store and asked the
manager for someone who could direct me to the correct aisles for the
items I needed, he called a young man and told him to assist me. He
said he would, but could not find anything. He obviously had not be
trained to do so. He went to look for someone else. He returned with
a young woman. Several other shoppers who could not find anything
rushed towards her, when they realized she could be of help and the
poor woman was surrounded by customers within seconds. I gave up and
walked away. The manager to whom I went again, showed me where I
could find chocolate chips and a few other things. I was happy to get
out of the store and go home. I only spent $40.00, which must be some
kind of record, at least for me in this kind of shop.

Next Wednesday I will check out the tiny Penzey's in Grand Central.

Thank you, Margaret -- well, that's hopeful, since it's a new store and they
are carrying them. And the price is the same.

As we always say, "They must just be too popular to keep in stock." <smirk>

That's so funny! We have the same saying, they must get sick of
restocking the shelves so they stop carrying it. Used to happen at
my local store all the time.

Same run around at the ACME about frozen White Castle cheesburgers. Took
about four months for them to restock it. Out of the way but available at
Guanardis (sp?) market the whole while.

I remember when my TJ ran out of canned split pea soup, I complained. And
now it's back, about a year later. I imagine it's a seasonal item.

That makes it even funnier, Andy, I'm talking about Acme, too!

Couple of weeks ago I saw a sales ad for Guanardi's (sp), so
I went to their website, where is there one around here. Put
my zip code in their store locator, comes back there is no
store here. I emailed them, I said, I used your store locator
blah blah, it says there is no store here. I said, I know that, I
live here, I was wondering where a store WAS. (laughing)
Told them they should just say where there stores are, not like
there are 8 million of them or anything. You can see from my
zip I'm in NJ, just wing it!

I got a note back, call them, yeah, never mind.

It should be a no season item. No store, at no time, in any place,
should carry that stuff. Gack.

nancy,

The canned split-pea-soup, I can live without. I make a better homemade
batch during the cold season.

Website store locators are general at best. I've been constantly foiled
for one item or another after browsing www.acmemarkets.com that show my
item but they're not stocked or out of stock at my ACME! Go two miles to
the next ACME and it's on the shelf in plenty!

I HATE that but don't mind shopping and browsing.

All the best,

Andy

$2.99 in Mesa, Arizona. At one time it was $1.99, I just assumed the
pricing was consistent.

<VBG> Yepper!

I forget if it was a MAD TV episode over the weekend, but anyways, Elmer
Fudd shot Bugs Bunny to death. Probably 10 blasts. Bugs Bunny took about
30 seconds to die in his own blood. Elmer Fudd grabbed him by the ears
and dragged him out of the camera's view.

Never thought I'd live to see the day!!!!!!!!

Margaret,

I was channel surfing, if I remember correctly. (yeah right) or
something. It was either on FOX or the Comedy Channel.

It was late, I was belly-achin', the stars were too bright, etc.

But Elmer got the bunny.

RIP? He took up my whole childhood and beyond, hearing "What's up
Doc?"!!! It was only a matter of time. His and mine! OK, RIP Bugs!

Maybe it was Family Guy! I have a great memory, it's just short. *sigh*

All the best,

Andy
