Welcome home, Annie!! And you're sporting a new name. . . . .
A classier person than I would ignore it or not comment. You get me.
What gives?

Heh...oh Barb..they don't come any classier than you! You don't fool me!

But what new name?

Hmm...maybe the "Young"? That's my married name, but Mitchell is still
the name that I go by professionally.

How're the peaches looking this year?

Annie

Whew! I don't remember you using Young for posting. How's that
young'un? He's gotta be about 6 or 8?

Too early for peaches here. Next month. Rhubarb's in and I've done a
very nice Cherry Rhubarb Jam and a Rhubarb, Mango, and Strawberry thang.
I'm still becoming acquainted with my new smooth top range and teaching
it how to cook for canning. "-) Not certain I'll do as much jamming as
in years past. We'll see.
Nice to see you, Annie!

You didn't find MacSOUP, the best of the lot by far? Feh!

Who would want to be without the true graphical thread tree
representation, with an easy and transparent navigation in it (matched
only by Hogwasher which copied it from MacSOUP)? Among the *nix
newsreaders only knews comes close but requires humongous amounts of
screen real estate to be usable. gnus is worse in this respect and
requires still more screen space.

> BUT, I *just* found a newsreader today that..works! YAY!!!!

No, it doesn't - see the top of your post, quoted above.

ObFood: Chilled cream of dilled squash. The recipe is from _The Cuisine
of Hungary_ by George Lang.

Victor

Chilled Cream of Dilled Squash
Hideg kapros tökleves
6 servings

1 small onion, sliced
1 celery rib, chopped
1 carrot, chopped
1/4 cup butter
2 yellow crookneck squash, each about 3/4 pound
1 medium-sized potato
1 1/2 quarts beef stock
4 dill sprigs, leaves only, chopped
3/4 cup heavy cream
Salt and pepper

1. Sauté onion, celery and carrot in butter until soft but not browned.
2. Peel squash and potato. Cut into 1/2-inch dice; discard squash
seeds. Add to stock, with sautéed vegetables, and cook until squash is
tender, about 30 minutes.
3. Strain and force vegetables through a sieve into the liquid. Add
the chopped dill and simmer for 2 minutes.
4. Mix in cream, and adjust the seasoning to taste. Chill. Serve in
chilled soup cups.

Samples? <grin>

We've had a horrible year weather-wise out here for fruit - our plum
flowered but never fruited, and a lot of people are having similar
problems. :-(

It's going to be interesting to see how things grow here. A very wet
spring but the grass now could stand some water. My rhubarb looks puny;
I need to pay a visit to some friends' patches, I think. The rhubarb
custard cake that I made on Friday night and didn't serve on Saturday
and didn't cut until Monday is still mighty fine. Brought about half of
it to the church staff for their weekly staff meeting. Brought the
recipe, too. Figured I'd save them a phone call. "-)
