well, since they're a good 45 mins to an hour from my house, I only get
up to TJs once every month or two. Haven't beeen since march. They've discontinues their paneer. I have about 5 jars of their simmer sauce which I love over paneer. I'm really bummed cuz I can't find it around here anywhere else. =( They've also stopped carrying this wonderful Italian Porcini risotto in a box that was soooo easy to makein a hurry. I like their frozen ones, but the boxed stuff was great too. And they were out of all their own-brand jams and jellies!! They've also raised the local price of two buck chuck from 2.99 to 3.29. Its creepng up. But other than that, I was pleased with my haul. Best new thing I got was their Thai Chili-Lime peanuts. These are addictive! (With my luck, they'll be discontinued before next time I go....) Best old thing was the box of white chocolat dipped, cream filled strawberries.Ooooh those are good! |

Yes, Jude, I know the feeling. I went to find the Panner - I believe it was you who told me or the ng about it. I never got to taste it; they never had it. But I will bemaking some next week. Madjur Jaffrey has a paragraph where she explains if you 'do not' want to make it into the pounded/drained pieces of paneer, that after you are finished draining it, use it as "curds." She uses it in a stir-fry type thingy, I believe it is with asparagus. I've not googled other recipes of this sort. I just bought the last time I was there the simmer sauces; one of them had been discontinued. Stock up next time if you like them. Here in Virginia, I've not paid less than $3.29 for 2-buck. I buy some preserves/jams from Big Lots at a decent price. The first ingredient is always the fruit, not sugar. And the second and third ingredient are not sugar and cornsyrup. They generally are from Germany and surrounds. They are good for crostata/tarts. I've not tasted TJ's jams. One jam/spread I'm nuts about is one from BJ's, but not inexpensive. Dalmatia Imports - Fig Spread with Orange 2004 NASFT Gold Medal Winner oustanding jam, preserve, spread or sweet topping. Ingredients: Dalmatian Dried Figs,Oranges, Pure cane sugar, water. 24.7 oz (700g) $5.49 Yum, Yum. Sorry you didn't get all you 'needed.' ;-)) Dee Dee |

Homemade is always better. but summer camps start in a week, and I'll be working in a kitchen teaching cooking from 9 -4, 4 days a week, off work at 5 PM 2 days a week, and teaching an evening class the other 2 nights......with 3 other classes during the weekdays plus birthday parties. By the time I get home I'll be tired ansd rushing to get dinner on the table and NOT in the mood for labor intensive cooking. I pilgrimaged to TJs for easy shortcut stuff, like their simmer sauces. Panner in masala sauce simmered with a can of peas and a pot of rice was a super easy quickie dinner that lived up to my foodie standards. Maybe homemade panner this fall, after camp season ends!! |

I really like them. I've used them for fish, tofu, and shrimp. My BF likes them with chicken. And the back says you can also do chickpeas or lentils or potaotes.......many options!! > Here in Virginia, I've not paid less than $3.29 for 2-buck. They are good for crostata/tarts. I've not tasted TJ's jams. my MIL is crazy about TJs jams. Uses the cherry preserves over ice cream in the evening. She buys them in every flavor. Personally, I love the Bonne Maman jams if i'm buying anything with sugar and not an all-fruit. My daughter loves Dickson's preserves. And of course, anything from the farm stand. > > One jam/spread I'm nuts about is one from BJ's, but not inexpensive. > Dalmatia Imports - > Fig Spread with Orange 2004 NASFT Gold Medal Winner oustanding jam, > preserve, spread or sweet topping. > Ingredients: Dalmatian Dried Figs,Oranges, Pure cane sugar, water. 24.7 oz > (700g) $5.49 Oh, that's yummy stuff! One of them that I was looking for was discontinued, and I'm pretty sure it was that one because I bought all of them, and I don't see it on my shelf. DA BOMB means: good or bad? I'll try the cherry preserves. I don't often buy cherry preserves. So "Thanks." Dee Dee |

I'dd cook the tofu in the sauce, or add the cottage cheese at the very end of cooking time. |

Just watch out for those whole chiles. Yowza! We love Trader Joe's frozen organic vegetables, especially the Harvest Hodge Podge and the Fire Roasted Vegetables with Balsamic Butter Saute. We cooked up a bag of those bad boys and put them over a half-pound of TJ's Penne, along with some capers. Faaaantastic! Leo |

Faaaantastic! The Fire Roasted Vegetables really are fantastic. We put them on a pizza, using their pizza dough, sauce and mozzarella. As a side dish, I'd serve these things to company. (Yes, I realize I just called myself a side dish, but I'm too lazy to go back and phrase it right.) TJ's discontinues products all the time, and acts like it's a good thing. Like they're keeping up with what their clients want. Sorry, but it's the reverse. If something drops even slightly in popularity they stop making it, and you go in and look for it and discover you're screwed. I still can't believe they discontinued making the best vegetarian burgers on the market. Note to simmer sauce fans: masala sauce good, curry sauce bad. |

Its creepng up. Do you live in SoCal or in the western US? If you do, call the corporate office and complain...located in Monrovia,CA. If you live in the east/midwest area, this is a different buying office, located somewhere in New England, I think With regard to being out of store brand jams & jellies, sounds like big ordering/delivery problem, I'd bitch at the store captain (manager). I just bought a case ot chuck at the $1.99 price. Harriet, MBA 2006 -- finally! |
