I've hear Crimini mushrooms, aka Italian Brown Mushrooms,
called "Baby Portabellas," so maybe this is what is being referred to.

They are similar to white mushrooms, but brown and a bit more flavorful.

I don't think the type of mushroom really matters, does it? Crimini,
Button, Shiitake, anything would work, IMO. Any firm mushroom sounds like
it would work.

Baby portabellos.
Actually I think they are criminis, at least when I see them in the
stores. They are easy to find and have a nice, rich flavor.

I've used 4 types in soup, and all fresh.
Add thinly sliced full sized portabellos. <G>

I think it's a cutsey term for baby portobello aka crimini... the
brown ones.

I've never tried wine, just broth. They did not absorb that as well as
they do water....... You've got my curiosity up as that sounds really
good!

I use warm/hot water to reconstitute and (to me) they are fine.
