Oh yeah, Happy Canada Day to our great neighbors to the North.

BTW, has your govt also wimped out on fireworks? It's now a class
D felony for some fireworks, here. I figure in another couple
decades, it'll be "shoot on sight" for holding a sparkler.

Thanks, and a Happy July 4 to you people down there.

We still have fireworks, but only on certain holidays. Firecrackers
are a no-no. I was part of the generation that got them banned :-)

I once say an interesting thing in the US while coming back from a
vacation down around Washington DC and Virginia area. On the way home
through PA just a mile or so from the NY state line there was a
building with barb wire topped fence all around it. PA state
residents were lot allowed to enter the store and you had to show your
driver licence to get it. It seemed really odd to have a fireworks
store in a state that residents of the state were not allowed to shop
in.

The stores in Chinatown sell fireworks. I suspect that any controls on
fireworks is provincial anyway.

And tonight there are hundreds of fireworks displays all over the
country, from Iqaluit to Windsor, Victoria to St. John's, all courtesy
of Her Majesty's deep pockets :-)

Oh, that is so funny you would mention that now. I live in a state
across the river from Pennsylvania, our officials are telling their
officials, change the law! However you feel about fireworks, it's
so funny how blatantly they covered their ass and still catered to
the manufacturers of fireworks. Been in the papers lately, anyway.

Okay, so here's my Canada Day trivia:

Canadians consume, per capita, more Kraft Macaroni & Cheese than any other
people on Earth.

If I ate that much Mac-n-Cheese, I wouldn't be nearly as nice as your
typical Canadian... ;-)

I don't know where it's like in your area, but here in the west there
are fires burning on 385,000 acres as of last night, many from lightning.

Seems kind of stoopid to me to add campfires and fireworks to that
scenario especially when many municipalities have fireworks displays
without the danger of blowing anyone's fingers off.

Well damn ....sounds like we better make lightening illegal!

"that scenario" is the direct result of man's interference with the
natural process of forestry thinning by fire. IOW, our timberlands
are tinder dry overgrown brushpiles because we've been too successful
at preventing natural weeding by fire for almost a century. We are
now reaping the firestorm.

Come to Indiana, where they've relaxed the laws. I figure here in another
couple of decades, you'll be able to buy plastique!

I'm afraid of fireworks, to be honest. I love looking at them, but I'll be
darned if I'm going to lighte'em! Gimme a sparkler any day!

On July 1, 1867, the British North America Act united the British
colonies of Upper Canada, Lower Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia
into "one dominion under the name of Canada." These four colonies
became Canada's first four provinces; Lower Canada was renamed Quebec,
and Upper Canada was renamed Ontario.

The July 1 holiday was known as Dominion Day until October 27, 1982,
when an act of parliament established the name Canada Day. The new name
symbolized a step away from Canada's colonial past. The holiday had
also sometimes been known as First of July or Confederation Day.

This reply is late, I know, but surely the cause of this is the Bare Naked

I consume a fair amount of 'mac and cheese' but never the Kraft stuff -
tastes like plastic to me.
Being a 7th generation Canadian Canada Day still reads 'the Queen's
birthday' to me.
This is a day to drink lots of beer and blow up things (fireworks). It is a
neighbourhood kind of day - not shouting from the rooftops kind of day.

Gourmet KD.
2 cups elbow maconi.
1 cup sour cream.
1/2 pound sharp (aged) cheddar cheese.
Couple of shakes of cayenne pepper.
Splash of whole milk.

Prep;
Cook macaroni to 'al dente'. Drain thoroughly.
Combine mac, cheese, sour cream and re-heat to melt cheese adding milk as
required to develop a smooth sauce.
**Note - NO BUTTER!

Cayenne pepper to taste (not necessarily for heat but to brighten the
flavour).
Serve with freshly ground black pepper, side salad or whatever.

Enjoy.
Ken.
