Flay, Mario, and several others have made guest appearances on Emeril's show, if that means anything. What would other chefs dislike about Emeril? (Bourdain, I know, makes several nasty remarks about him in "Kitchen Confidential".) He's entertaining and has gotten people interested in cooking, much like Jeff Smith, Julia Child, and the Galloping Goumet did in years past. I used to dislike him until I realized that he's primarily an entertainer. Now I just sit back and enjoy his show when I have nothing better to do. Leo |

These people make it to the top of their field, then make a big jump to entertainment and all you folks can do is bitch. BTW, everyone gets annoying if you watch them 3 times a day, even Lucy. nb |

The show is not a cooking show it is entertainment. His restaurants are
good (at least in New Orleans). But "top of their field" - come on. notbob wrote: > On 2006-07-03, Leo Scanlon > wrote: > > >>realized that he's primarily an entertainer. > > > Where do you get that? > > No, he's first and foremost a professional chef. When Emeril began to annoy me, I STOPPED WATCHING!!!! All the Rachel and Flay haters, even Sandra Lee, should do the same. Just watch something else. Bourdain also says that he was drinking with employees of one of Emeril's restaurants, and no one has anything bad to say about Emeril or the restaurant. Emeril is by all accounts a good chef and restaurant operator who now enjoys himself on TV, promoting interest in food and cooking. |

Hard to stop - cant believe that something so bad can be on TV. Like
Sandra Lee's show today: how to make a steak sandwich, assemble the contents of a pudding cup into a small cake and make a root beer float. Do people really need a show for these three "recipes"? Yes, actually. Not everyone can follow Alton Brown as he talks about saccharomyces cerevisiae and allicin and starch granules and bain marie and... The best cooking shows are the ones that get people with no skill to feel comfortable cooking. That said, Sandra Lee's show is still a bad example. If she was doing real cooking on a basic level, instead of frankencooking canned goods, it'd be a good example. It's not cooking, most of the time. Though the root beer float is reasonable. If you've never made one, it's hard to tell that it's just root beer and ice cream and doesn't have twelve other ingredients or some subtle preparation. --Blair |

Got to be kidding. A root beer float recipe is reasonable? Only if it
includes making the root beer. > > Yes, actually. > > Not everyone can follow Alton Brown as he talks about > saccharomyces cerevisiae and allicin and starch > granules and bain marie and... > > The best cooking shows are the ones that get people > with no skill to feel comfortable cooking. > > That said, Sandra Lee's show is still a bad example. > If she was doing real cooking on a basic level, instead > of frankencooking canned goods, it'd be a good example. > It's not cooking, most of the time. > > Though the root beer float is reasonable.
