That was a MYTHBUSTER (Discovery Channel cable TV show) myth and there was an imperceptable echo, IIRC. Should've married HER! ![]() Andy |

It's the only marsupial in the Americas, looks sort of like a giant rat but is pretty slow moving. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opossum> Brian -- If televison's a babysitter, the Internet is a drunk librarian who won't shut up. -- Dorothy Gambrell (http://catandgirl.com) |

Related distantly to kangaroos. Nasty creatures, combination scavenger and small predator. I've killed them for killing my poultry in the past... http://www.bear-tracker.com/opossum.html http://kaweahoaks.com/html/opossum.htm They are VERY common around here! -- Peace! They are good for eating snails and other pests, or decaying fruit that has dropped off the tree. There is rarely any problem interacting with cats and dogs, although the dog might attack the possum. And unlike much wildlife, the body temperature is so low that rabies is virtually unknown. I always put out my cats' rejected food and enjoy watching the neighborhood possums who come around at night. Art (former member of the Opossum Society of the US) |

I think they are cute, but I don't want to eat one. Jill |

I didn't realise that America had a cousin of the Australian possum. We have lots of possums in our garden. They are very cute but wild and their bites are dangerous. I haven't seen possum on a menu yet. |

I have seen them in Mexican standoffs though. |
