Just a short blurb to say I tried this last night, with Tostitos
"Scoops" shaped chips. Good stuff! A nice medium bite to the salsa yet with a fruity tang. Who knew Paul had it in 'em? |

Mr. Newman's popcorn, salad dressing and lemonade are all great, but I
steer clear of his salsas. They just aren't good. they're too soupy, with a few large chunks of tomato tossed in, and there's virtually no roasted pepper taste. I'm a salsa nut, and to me the right salsa can make or break your tacos, burritos, etc. There are hundreds of great salsas on the market, and I hate to say Mr. Newman's are just slightly above Pace in the pecking order. |

I liked his Pineapple salsa. This isn't a salsa I'd want to put on tacos or burritos. Just a nice salsa for chips and a snack. Not all salsas need to have a roasted pepper flavor for enjoyment. Now, I can't imagine buying bottled salad dressing or powdered lemonade. Tastes vary, eh? |

A few weeks ago 5 lb bags of russet potatoes were on sale at my local store. Interestingly, they were the Paul Newman brand... I like buying his stuff because I like him, plus which his profits go to good charities... -- Best Greg |

Donating profits sounds good in theory, but apparently finding out exactly which charities is near impossible? I suspect some goes towards drug issues as his son died from drug abuse years ago. Inversely, I know some people choose to not support particular manufacturers for whatever reason. I know a cop who won't buy Ben and Jerry's ice cream because of past corporate support towards the defense of a man who shot and killed a police officer. I just recently learned on RFC about the boycott of Coke products by blacks in the US, as well as union supporters in South America and environmentalists in India. Anyway, I like Paul Newman as a person myself. I love that a man his age is passionate about racing cars and keeps active. I love that he's been married a long time to the same woman, a rare thing in Hollywood types. I like that his daughter runs the organic end of his line, as that was her own personal interests before she started. Nice to be able to do things to keep the family involved together. |

I often make similiar fruit salsas depending on who is coming to dinner to use on pork, chicken and fish. I will have to try this to see if this can be a one jar, frozen chicken breast, quick meal thing. weber.com has one I put in my MC cookbook that I use on Rock Fish, can't get a real fresh Red Snapper here in the PNW. Red Snapper With Pineapple-Peach Salsa And Mango "Guacamole" . love the sweet fruity heat flavors |

I'll alter my buying habits for political reasons, plus which I like to support the smaller and well - run businesses in my neighborhood. I buy my coffee at the local place on the corner, not the Starbucks down the block. I'll buy books, etc. at my local bookstore instead of Borders when I can. Unabridged Books here in Chicago has been heavily - involved with the local nabe here since it's inception. They pay their workers the highest wages of any bookstore workers in the US, plus good benefits. Their service is really personal, etc... I'll also go out of my way to spread the "bad word" about crummily - run small local businesses, too. I'll contact city regulatory officials, write letters to local media, etc. I've helped put a real dent in the business of one place in particular, another place I actually helped to shut down... > Anyway, I like Paul Newman as a person myself. Man, I still think of Paul and Joanne as "young", I'm remembering them especially when they were the "golden couple" back in the 60's...do I feel old!? I adore them both, what can I say? -- Best Greg |

I saw a segment on him on some news program that offered a few specifics. They have a few camps for kids with cancer -- "Hole in the Wall Gang" camps, and I believe there are eight of them. Free for kids to attend. Sigh; now I feel stupid. I'm heading out to buy pineapple salsa as we speak. |

He donates all proceeds to the 'Hole in the Wall Camps' named for his 'gang' from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie. It is a camp for children with cancer, I think it works along the lines of the Sunshine Foundation. His daughter is an MBA and run the both corporations ..the camp and the food line. I don't know if there is any family connection the way there is for NASCARs Kyle Petty and the 'Victory Junction' a camp very similar started when Kyle's son Adam was killed during a race. -ginny |
