Default Muir Glen canned tomatoes

I opened a can of Muir Glen Fire Roasted Organic Whole Tomatoes today,
and there were no tomatoes in it. Just juice and no solids or chunks
or pieces of any kind. I've been using Muir Glen canned tomatoes for
quite a while and never had this happen before. Has anybody else?

Muir Glen: Winner of the Cooks Illustrated "Best Canned Tomato
Award". For some reason, they only used US brands in their "test".

I was never a fan of MG. In fact, I don't use US domestic brands
unless I'm really desperate. I buy the San Marzano brands by
the case.

Steve, what do you use? The S.F. Chronicle did a "road test" on canned
tomatoes, and Trader Joes' canned Roma Tomatoes was their favorite!! Also
it's 89c. I use that routinely. The best I have had, by far, however, is the
strained Pomi tomato sauce from Italy . It's irradiated, and "cardboard
canned" in square paper boxes. It's by far the best fresh tasting tomato I
have ever found. It lasts a long time in the frig. If you buy it in an
upscale market they will screw you at $5/carton. I find it for very near 2$.
They also make a great marinara sauce.

Write them an email or a letter (contact info on can label) -- and then
conceal your surprise when your reply comes back on General Mills
letterhead.

That happened to me with a can of peppers, I think it was either Ortega or
Old el paso. I called the toll free number and they profusely apologized
and sent coupons.

The Muir Glen fire roasted tomatoes are the best you can get, if only
because they're the only fire-roasted tomatoes on the market.
Unfortunately they're hard to find.

For diced tomatoes, my favorite is Rienzi. They're actually diced
rather than crushed. For crushed tomatoes (pretty much puree under a
different name), Cento.

I'll have to try the TJoe's brand. Thanks!

Vienna sausages sliced in scrambled eggs.

Trader Joes has been carrying the Muir Glen fire roasted tomatoes for
months and months now.

Thanks Christine! I went to four stores looking for them and struck
out. Didn't think of Trader Joe's.

Still haven't gotten down their canned-goods aisle yet. The store
opened two months ago and it's *still* that crowded. By the time I've
looked at cereal and frozen food I'm about ready to clock somebody with
my basket. (The red plastic one, I mean.)

Yes, I noticed this yesterday too. I was puzzled to find just one small
piece of tomato in a can of Muir Glen Whole Peeled Tomatoes. Never had
that happen before either. Time to try the Trader Joes brand that
everybody is talking about!

Heck, I hope you've written to Muir Glen about it. I had a similar
experience and got a response and a couple coupons for free product.
Give them the packing info on the end of the can. (Didja know that
Muir Glen is owned by General Mills?)

I have. Contact them (I think I did it through their website) and tell
them all about it. My report got me a reply and a couple coupons for
free product. General Mills owns them.
