Default Okay, heat wave is over here....

I'll admit, it did get hot here but that ended tonight. I'm back to
sitting in my sweatshirt. A lot of my crazy body temp has to do with
that stupid thyroid cancer that I talked about a couploe of months ago.

Last night, dh and I went and sat outside at a lakeside restaurant and
I was too hot to eat. We ordered some spring rolls (cold) with cold
peanut sauce. Oh my god, they were great! Hit the spot on a hot
evening and they're relatively healthy too.

I've googled recipes for them however if anyone has any really good
recipes for spring rolls (not the fried kind, the ones that are made in
that whitish/clearish rice wrap) and/or peanut sauce, would you be so
kind to share???

Thanks! I'm planning on making them for dinner tomorrow and I NEVER
plan ahead. I'm just in the mood for them again.

Spicy Peanut Dipping Sauce

2 tablespoons peanut butter (chunky or regular)
1 tablespoon salad oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon Sriracha sauce (or to taste.) A Tabasco style hot sauce
can be substituted, but I prefer Sriracha.
1/4 teaspoon chopped cilantro leaves (optional).

Mix ingredients well. Serve as a dipping sauce.

Not quite over here, but I'll be able to sleep tonight. Night temps
dropped below 80° before 0500hrs for the first time tonight. It's
going to be triple digits again tomorrow, but sweet geezus, it's 75°,
now (0111hrs-7/27).

I am SO looking forward to the end of this! 10+ days of >100 temps, 3
consecutive days at 111. It's madness, I tell you! I'm actually grateful
my housemate is not working because she can take care of the doggies during
the day. No way I'd leave the "kids" outside in these temps. I put an $8k
central AC/heating system in last January (the old one died), and I ****ed
and moaned about it at the time. I'm bloody happy I did so now!!! People
are literally dying here...

The heat wave truly has broke, here, thank goodness. Temps are now
7-9 deg cooler than yesterday at this time. It actually reached 68°
last night and I slept like a dead man.

Good on ya', Tammy. My daughter did the same for some new elderly
neighbors across the street with no cooling. She invited them over to
her place (a/c). I was so proud of her.

Here too.

Now the humid wave has started.

Two days ago: 114F, 18%.
Today: 102F, 70%.

S'okay. My A/C is a powerful dehumidifier. Due to a clog
in the regular dripline, I have the drip running from the
air handler in the garage into a 5-gallon bucket that I
dump in the street occasionally. I'll be emptying it once
a day until the Monsoon ends.

And the heat wave broke here in Seattle early Tuesday morning. It was
97° on Friday when we left for the Olympic Peninsula in an attempt to
stay cool. In between hiking on Hurricane Hill and visiting the Port
Angeles street fair and sand sculpture competition, we luxuriated in the
air-conditioned comfort of our hotel room.

OB food: Who knew that the best bagels in WA were in Port Angeles?
Olympic Bagels reminded us of Collegetown Bagels in Ithaca, right down
to the funky ambience of the dining room. You can even watch the
bagel-matic cut the dough into bagel shapes, similar to the Krispy Kreme
viewing windows.
