Does anybody know anything or has this grill and can recommend it?
The price is good, and I was almost certain I am going to buy it. However when I took a look at it at Lowes I found that the lid is not that heavy i.e. the sheet of metal is not that thick and definetely is not doubled as some others there. I was thinking that a heavier lid would keep the temperature better? Any comments? Is this a good grill? http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=prod...84873-451-2215 |

Look at the Weber Genesis Silver C, which has the same configuration, but not the stainless steel, which looks good but doesn't really do anything but look good. --Blair "You might have to go across the street to Home Depot..." |

It's prolly about the best grill you can find in that price range... very solid and doesn't incinerate your food like their last El Cheapo Char-Broil they owned... ~john! |

We bought a Coleman similar to the 42,000 BTU unit that Loew's sells for
$399. It's higher rated, very sturdy, and we love it. I owned a Weber for fifteen years and recently bought a new Silver B. Weber's are without a doubt the best built grills under $400. Now as to this Char-Broil. I had the pleasure of cooking on this same grill recently at a party. I loved the griddle that comes standard and the cast iron burners were very precise. My only complaint is the lid allows a lot of heat through because it is not double walled. It is very tall though and that helps. Insulated lids aren't standard until you get into the $700 dollar range for any manufacturer. |

The thing is that even though people are suggesting Weber, at this
price range it has more space, BTUs and a heavy-duty rotisserie. My impression that it may loose heat is apparently true. The only question is how bad is it and is it that big of a problem? |

Like I said the height of the lid is sufficient enough to offset the heat loss. You don't want to be using this to incinerate meat anyway. Even the Weber in this price range has a single wall lid and is another $150 more expensive with lesser burners. |

Cooks' Illustrated also did a comparison test of grills, and rated the Weber Genesis Silver series best for price and even cooking. I bought mine because nobody was running them down. And mine works beautifully. I've never had anything go wrong on it that wasn't my own damn fault. And the Weber people are perfectly obsequieous about customer service. When mine was delivered, it had some minor scratches on the tray tables. I reported them in an email, and I had brand new tables within two weeks. I got the Genesis Silver C, and I think if I had to do it again, I'd just get the A (the lowest-cost model, with no tables and no side burner, $250-350) because I put it in a spot where the patio table would work perfectly well for staging, and I've used the side burner exactly once, and could have done as well leaving that pot on the kitchen stove. --Blair "Can't recommend them highly enough." |

I don't think anyone has ever used the side burner.

More often than not a propane gas side burner outdoors unless kept at its higher settings will be put out with the least gust of wind.... then by the time it's noticed more than an hour has passed, the pot is cold and the gas was wasted.... best outdoor cooktop is a Coleman white gas stove, lotsa BTUs when needed and even on the lowest settings it would take a hurricane to put out the flame. Personally in all the years I've been grilling maybe twice I needed a side burner, and then I used my Coleman. ---= BOYCOTT FRENCH--GERMAN (belgium) =--- ---= Move UNITED NATIONS To Paris =--- Sheldon ```````````` "Life would be devoid of all meaning were it without tribulation." |

I wheel it just outside the door and deep fry with it. It's also great for making sauces while the meat is cooking. My favorite part is there is about 2% cleanup compared to doing this indoors. Gar |
