If it *is* Giada, I have a question: When you use eggs in a recipe, why do
you put the empty shells back into the carton with the uncracked eggs? Are
you saving them for some reason?

I've noticed her do that once or twice. My only thought is that maybe
she composts them, and putting them back in the carton instead of
throwing them away keeps them separated from the regular trash -- that
way her staff can clean them up more easily.

Only a guess though.

Pay no attention to the rudeness of some of the posters here. They just
can't help themselves.

My cable company doesn't carry FoodTV, so obviously I never see any of their
programming.

I'm sure someone will give you a civil answer.

No one was rude. And she got answers. I don't know what the poll
was about, but people did respond.

Rachel had that sweet spot in 2002 or so when she lost
the weight and still had a bit of a softness to her voice.

But by last year, she was a foghorn on a tugboat.

Now, from the commercials, it's apparent she's going to
be doing schtick and overcompensating for her panic at
having a much bigger show to deal with.

I'll keep trying to mentally will Giada to come to her
senses and call me.

It's what you do when you're used to knocking off a whole
carton at a time.

Yesterday she had the eggs in a bowl and was returning the
shells to it and getting the next egg.

That wasn't what bugged me. What bugged me was her lightly
tapping the egg three or four times then gingerly prying
it open. I thought all pros could do the one-handed
single-tap egg-dump.

Please don't let this initial response post put you off from the newgroup.
Here's what I've always suggested:

Lurk a while and figure out the climate of the group. Then jump in and get
your feet wet. Expect some negative feedback because that's the nature of
the group. As others would say, don your asbestos underwear :)

For the most part people here are friendly but we can be a bit (!)
facetious. And a lot of us have "known" each other for more years than your
momma cares to count (example of facetiousness).

Having said that, I had no idea what you were talking about because you
didn't name names, just the name of a television program. I don't have
cable television and I rarely watch TV. I gathered from some of the replies
it was Giada something (daughter or grandaughter of a film director).

Anyway, don't let this put you off, but put on your asbestos underware, pull
up your hip waders, and wade into the foray. And offer a recipe if you have
one :)

I can't answer the question, but speaking of Giada, did anyone hear the
article on NPR's "On The Media" this weekend? It was some guy that wrote
an article for Harper's Bazzar magazine that equated some of the food
shows on the Food Network to porn.

He supposedly researched this with a cinematographer that has done like
300 porn movies, and the cinematographer noted that the way certain
sounds are used, certain shots composed on-screen, and how certain foods
are presented is just like the way sex is presented in porn.

And Everyday Italian was most definitely discussed.
