Default Abstract: Food is...

Comfort, as in comfort foods like mashed potatoes, or when someone dies
we take the bereaved food, like a casserole

Used to celebrate holidays and special occasions

Essential

A medium to be creative with

Universal, there are so many things the people of the world eat, I'd
hate to see the size of a world cookbook

Jobs for millions, to include making stoves, pots n pans, food
production and distribution etc...

Natural resource

Commodity

Imported / Exported

An earmark in technology as in packaged astronaut food

Peace offering, in America we have Thanksgiving that reminds us of the
first meal the pilgrims had with the natives.
The natives were actually Americans, we just called them Indians
because Chris thought he was in India.
They also thought the world was flat

Beautiful to look at

Aphrodisiac - like pomegranates or chocolate

Requires effort to have some

Recyclable

Im sure I am overlooking many more things, if not feel free to meditate
on my feeble list

Default Abstract: Food is...

Ritual / memories -- family meals shared and recipes passed down
through generations.

Communion -- There is something very primal about sharing a big turkey
or roast or loaf of bread with family and friends.

A marker of class / status / tribe -- "Tell me what you eat and I'll
tell you what you are."

Healing, healthy, strengthening, nourishing

Unhealthy, weakening, sickening

You're off to a good start anyway

Food is...

Emotional...love, anger, nurturing, deprivation
Bonding...bring people together
Tradition...passing down from generation to generation
Overrated...by snobby chefs looking down their noses at others
Underrated...by people who don't take the time to learn the craft
Health...if done right
Death...if done wrong
