![]() I couldn't find a better group to post this question in, but hoped some one here would offer suggestions. My wife is looking for a new toaster. She has shopped in about four stores, and every single toaster she sees looks like pure junk. I think she prefers a two slice toaster. Has anyone bought a new toaster in the recent past, and been real happy with the quality of what you purchased ? If so, please comment here !! Thanks !!!!!!!!! --James-- |

I have one that does Winnie the Pooh on one slice and Tigger on the other. You *cannot* get properly browned toast. Either hot bread or charcoal. You've gotta pick one. James, after taking an infinite amount of time, finally, on 12 Aug 2006,
typed out: > > > I couldn't find a better group to post this question in, but hoped > some one > here would offer suggestions. > > My wife is looking for a new toaster. I spent a while at a Target store and plugged in each toaster they had in a wall outlet to see the quality of the elements. Most were sufficiently underwhelming!!! I got a Black & Decker Optitoast Wide Slice toaster. The biggest problem is the thermosensing. The next biggest problem is the bagel setting. The thermo is highly inadequate on most. Mine is set on high to produce an acceptably toasty result. The bagel setting never toasts one side acceptably requiring a re-toast so I relegate bagels and English muffins to under the broiler. It's also tempermental about ejecting toast before it's ready to! Let this serve as a guide in your hunt. Andy |

They work quite well and my wife and I are quite pleased with how they work. I don't think they make those models anymore, however. Check Amazon.com for toasters. Most of the products they carry have user ratings. You can sort the products by user ratings to find the highest rated ones. Rusty |

I was thinking of modifying one of these to produce Jesus on one slice and the Virgin Mary on the other. Not to to eat, of course, (I'm on a low-carb diet) but to sell for big bucks on eBay. They contract the work to whatever foreign sweat shop provides the lowest bid. As a result, the Cusinart you now own may in no way resemble the one someone else buys today. Same with all the other manufacturers, with no exceptions. |

I gave up on toasters a long time ago. I use a multi-purpose appliance! I
have a toaster-oven. I love it, and it does so much more than just toast. It is especially wonderful when I want to make a small portion of something like garlic toast or cheese toast, and I don't have to heat up the whole kitchen. I used to have a two slice toaster oven (in fact, two consecutively) when my kids were small. They were terrific and I used them for everything too... baking potatoes, small casseroles, french bread pizza - the list goes on. I'll get another one someday. |

We have a two slice KA for a couple of years now. Seems to be doing well. Heck, it makes toast consistently at each setting, has side slots, so it does all that is asked of it. Maybe the $7.98 toaster at Wal Mart does also, but I've not tried one. |

I'm not a pie-baking kind of person, but I have no doubt it'll do one fine, as long as the pie fits. It'll do the first two slices of toast in about 3.5 minutes, but it adjusts once heated up so the subsequent ones are about 2 minutes. Preheat it a bit while you're prepping other things and you should get the benefit. And it's a convection oven, too. It does amazing things with fish. --Blair |

According to the specs it will take a 9" pie plate, so that should be big enough. The only downside I've experienced in the past with smaller convection ovens is that the top crust of a pie overbrowns or burns before the pie itself is done. I suppose one could turn off the convection function. > It'll do the first two slices of toast in about 3.5 > minutes, but it adjusts once heated up so the subsequent > ones are about 2 minutes.
