Default Ice cream

Some time back we were discussing the new Breyer's policy of adding
carrageenan to their ice cream.

I bought some Ben and Jerry's the other day as it was on sale. I
assumed, without looking, that as a premium it would be all natural. I
was surprised by the ingredient list (Cherry Garcia):

Cream, Skim Milk, Liquid Sugar, Water, Cherries, Egg Yolks, Sugar, Corn
Syrup, Coconut Oil, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Cocoa (Processed With
Alkali), Cocoa, Natural Flavors, Concentrated Lemon Juice, Caramel And
Red Cabbage Juice Extract (For Color), Guar Gum, Milkfat, Soya
Lecithin, Carrageenan

They were all-natural once upon a time. Then Ben & Jerry's
sold......are they owned by Unilever now? One of the big conglomorates.
Check the fne print. once they're owned by a big corn, out comes the
high fructose corn syrup!!

Those are indeed all natural ingredients.

Consider yourself lucky the color is from cabbage, coulda been *all
natural* "coccineal".

High fructose corn syrup is natural, just as natural as ordinary white
granulated or any other form of sugar. Sugars are derived from plants,
so you don't consider plants natural... oh, you mean your implants! LOL

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. . . .

Natural, yes. But are they needed? Breyers has been making ice cream for
over 60 years without all the fillers. They used to have a "Pledge of
Purity" on the container. Of course, Breyers has long been just another
part of a conglomerate for at least the past 25 yr so years. (Sealtest,
Kraft, Good Humor) Now it is a name to be whored for all it is (was) worth.

I'm surprised I have to spell it out. People were pretty critical of
Breyers, which is a higher-end standard ice cream, for adding
carrageenan to their mix. I was surprised to find out that a premium
(normally $3 a pint) brand like B&J has even more thickeners and stuff.

Ah, so they have been, Unilever is correct. I hadn't realized they
weren't still an independent company. That sheds some new light on
things.

I thought the reason they were critical is that the Breyers All Natural was
using this thickening agent. It's like selling something as organic that
has been grown with chemical fertilizers and chemical insecticides.
