Default Lettuce revisited, Romaine hearts!

After reading so much about them here, I finally bought some. :-)
Thanks to all! They are wonderful!

I've always just used Boston Butter lettuce and green or red leaf
lettuce, and occasionally whole romaine. I just don't care for iceberg.

The Romaine hearts are delightfully crispy and have a nice flavor and at
3 per package, have been well worth the cost.

I've been on a salad kick all week. Been mixing Romaine heart, baby
spinach leaves, hydroponic Boston Butter lettuce and some shredded fresh
basil leaves. To that I've added sliced grilled chicken tenders, black
olives and tomatoes, all topped with Wishbone Ceaser dressing.

It's been incredible!

I'm so happy you like them. You know, after flapping my gums
about them and all. (laugh) I have to remember to check for the
Boston Bibb.

Yum. Sometimes it's just got to be salad.

You really don't need lettuce to make a fabulous garden salad... use
shredded bok choy, napa cabbage, and mustard greens... add snow peas,
cherry tomatoes, asparagus tips, sliced 'shrooms, a few cashews,
whatever... and an oriental dressing.

No, sounds like last Saturday's lunch. Except I didn't have asparagus
tips or mustard greens. Did have beansprouts and scallions. -aem

I looked at them. They were $4 a bag! I bought two pounds of chuck roast for
that
and made a very nice stew.

Maybe another time, when I am flush, but right now .... my little $2 bags of
Dole
mix will do me just fine.

I love salads like this. They are great with some fish sauce/lime
juice/sugar/hot sauce on them too. Throw some basil, mint and/or cilantro
into them and they (to me) are that much better and that much better for
you!

Pretty also!

There are just some things I prefer cooked... :-)

Cabbage, bok choy, mustard greens, snow peas, and scallions being
included. The rest of the above I'd add to a raw salad ok!

Ah... they were $2.79 here. :-)

But I did pay $3.00 for the head of hydroponic Boston Butter lettuce. I
keep water in the root well and it stays live and crisp for a couple of
weeks.

Not that it's been lasting that long lately. <G>

I use only 3 or 4 leaves of that at a time. I use mostly baby spinach
leaves in my salads right now and add small amounts of lettuce for the
crunch. Bagged spinach is inexpensive.

I love salads like that, Sheldon. I haven't had one in quite a while,
though. I think it's time. Thanks!

Can you believe the &%$@ing Harris Teeter? And you can bet the price is
jacked up just because the store is in Raleigh. It's like a tradition.
Twenty minutes away in Durham and they probably pay $2 a bag.
