I bought a few Haas avocados yesterday that seemed pretty ripe. When i
opened them they looked a bit light in colour and while very soft, they were more watery than creamy. I noticed that the skin was more purple than black and the avocado flesh didn't have much flavour. It was not the nice fatty/creamy texture that i am used to either. can anyone explain to me why this might be the case? |

It happens to our avocados, especially at the beginning of the season. We had a fabulous Kahaluu avocado yesterday. We have 2 prolific trees, a Sharwil and a Kahaluu and I think we love the Kahaluu just a bit more. Totally creamy, nice size (we throw half away daily to our chickens, cuz there's more) and extremely tasty. I've found the large Florida avocados are similar to what you describe -- watery and flavorless. Caveat emptor. |
