I found a new use for my 'glass' stove top...
 

I got gifted a G-bag of yummy bread today... seed loaves, garlic cheese
foccacia, heavy dark rye, some sweet stuff and on and on...

I double wrapped everything in two directions with Saran for the freezer.
And I discovered that that surface of my stove has the exact amount of
"cling" to hold the Saran flat without bunching or wrinkling. Works like a
hot damn and eliminates a whole lot of frusterations !

(I have used 6o metres of Saran in the last two gifts !!!)

Hey I'll have to try that! :-)

I use my glass top a lot for photography as the overhead lighting is
perfect.

Hmmm. This could be a good thread. Innovative uses that make
the glass-topped stove almost worth having. :-)

Indeed! :-)

I personally love it for food prep as well.
It acts easily as an extra counter surface as my kitchen is very small.
I can use all the prep space I can get when I'm doing an elaborate
recipe. <G>

I grew up with gas stoves, and as an adult, I haven't had one...
So, if electric is a given, I would have no other than a glass-top...
For cleaning ease if for no other reason.
Yes, it is also a delight to have that extra space to park groceries while I
stow 'n' store...

It's nice to have a stove that can be used as a counter top
temporarily..... :-)

If you're ever without your glasstop, try Stretch-tite plastic wrap.
Over the years, Saran has aged me 10; Glad, 5. With Stretch-tite I'm a
kid again.

About fifteen years ago my uncle's house burned to the ground from

Funny, 'zactly what he used to say... guess little miss perfect is one
of those doesn't believe in insurance either.

The only reason 'electric stoves have idiot lights is to absolve the
manufactures of liability, not to make them idiot proof. Keep using
your stove as a repository for your junk and sooner of later you will
burn your house down too... probably right after you finally paid off
your mortgage and let your insurance lapse.

I really like Reynolds clear plastic wrap, but I have been buying
K-Mart's own brand (American Fare, I think, in a yellow box) and it
works just as well. I always found Saranwrap to be too thick to cling
well.
