I've always been interested in the tales of the legionaires, certainly in many cases the hard toughened professional long service soldiers of the their day, voicing complaints and near mutiny when fed too much fresh meat instead of their preferred ration of the Roamn GI version of "polenta". My God, had they been issued baguettes, they would have killed their officers. Apparently, the "ration" wine was hardly of vintage quality either, but the troops preferred it and turned up their noses at the thin and bodyless wines some later notable wine regions. TMO |
