I actually started on Wednesday by digging out the Mehu Liisa to get
juice from the Lodi apples I bought Tuesday. Made jelly yesterday. Jars sealed and the jelly has set but seems a little soft. Not bad and hopefully it will get a little stiffer in a few more days. I chopped up the rest of the apples to make apple butter. Boy are the instructions contradictory. One recipe says to peel and core. Another one says to core but not peel. The Ball Blue Book says to remove blossom and stem ends but do not peel or core. I decided to go that route and found that my tomato corer works great for the removal. After I started putting the cooked apples through the Squeezo I remembered why I core when I use it. Next time either core or use the food mill. Both turned out well, a little tart. Now to decide how to make peach ice cream. |
