I ended up making a quart and a half or so of the most delicious
preserves out of the plums. I only threw out the mushiest ones. But next week, I'm sure to have hundreds more plums to harvest, so I'll try some of your suggestions then. Thanks for all your help! Serene -- "I think I have an umami receptor that has developed sentience." -- Stef |

Our plum, peach, pear, and quince trees all bloomed and then got caught by a late frost. No plums, peaches, or quince but we do have four pears. <VBG> But, the fig tree is giving us two to four quarts per day of ripe figs. Takes about two days to get enough to run a batch of jam so we're happy. Today I made a batch of moussaka to go in the freezer after it cools down and I vacuum seal it in a big bag. Half the eggplant came from our garden, the rest from the farmer's market yesterday. Smells really good in our kitchen now. George |

Oh, I would love that, but I promised the teenager a trip to the Marina to picnic and watch fireworks. Thanks, though! I understand they're leaving later on to Jack London Square to see them. (the people I'm coming from the City with are probably leaving before that, and I don't like those kind of crowds anyway).
