Default Big doings in the kitchen

If today wasn't hectic enough what with painting the art studio ceiling
and walls and scheduling the floor guys to put the new laminate in there
the !@#$%^ refrigerator chose this morning to die. The !@#$%^ compressor
went out and it would cost more to replace than buying a new
refrigerator would. Consequently DW and I went to the brand new Lowes
Store here, just opened at 0730 this morning, and bought a new
Frigidaire 18 cubic foot machine, icemaker and all. Icemaker's aren't
luxuries here in SW Louisiana, they're as much a necessity as air
conditioning. They deliver it tomorrow but the big news is this, we were
the first folks to buy something at the store, getting there shortly
after it opened, and we got a $100.00 gift certificate. A hundred bucks
doesn't go far in one of those stores but I've got my eye on a new side
grinder or maybe a compound miter saw I saw at about $200.00. Getting it
half off ain't bad. I'm sure going back for their Grand Opening on the
21st to see what they have on sale. Sales person (associate?) that I
know told me they were either going to discount a bunch of stuff or do a
"tax free" day. Tax free days are pretty good as our town collects 8.5%
sales tax.

Getting ready to put up the last of the figs. Looks to be enough for
another 6 or 7 pints of fig jam with lemon. Takes 14 to 18 pints of figs
to last us through the year and we had a puir crop this year.

Anyone need any squash? Picked enough Zuchetta Rampicante Trombocino
yesterday to build a small log cabin. Getting ready to grill one for
supper tonight to go with the leg quarters I've got marinating.

Here's one for Barb if she's reading this: my two greatgranddaughters
are coming to visit Saturday. Avery Amya, the youngest, will be two
months old next week so maybe I'll bake her a cake.

Life is good.

Keep an eye out, George, because the new Lowe's here
offered a 15% discount the first time you use it if
you open a charge account with them. We bought a new
dishwasher and the savings wasn't chump change.
