Pear mincemeat (sweet not savory)
Three twenty-six-ounce Atlas Mason jars full of pear mincemeat are in
the BWB canner for their twenty-minute bath. Friend recently gifted me with several of those Classico sauce jars that are genuine Mason jars and have the proper screw top. Thank goodness for folks who actually eat store bought sauce. One of those jars is just right for a pie or a cake and saves my full quart jars for other purposes. I have eaten her pasta and sauce on several occasions over the fifty odd years we've known her and never suspected she didn't make her own sauce as she is an excellent cook. At guess at our advanced ages she decided to go with store-bought sauce. Plus her eldest son and his eleven-year old son just came to live with her recently, probably makes more sense that way as she still works every day for the school system. She and I have been friends since we were sophomores in high school and she and Miz Anne became close friends as soon as they met in very early 1961. Old friends are often the best friends. I'll have to make a mincemeat pie and take it over to Texas next time we go visiting. George |

My social circle is mostly a social line between my husband and I but I do have two girlfriends both of whom I met in college. No matter how much time goes by between visits, we just pick up where we left off. While making my preserving plans for this year, I saw one or two mincemeat recipes. I've never eaten it but it sounds interesting. Our pear trees are looking promising. You've given me some good ideas for them this year, George. Thanks. |
