I just knew it. I broke my own cardinal rule when multiplying
recipes. Never multiply the chiles! They were a little bit hotter than I thought was comfortable, and because they were on the less sweet side, it just didn't work as well as I thought it should. I believe I actually like B & B's sweeter, but not *syrupy* if you know what I mean. And don't double the chiles when you double the recipe. Edrena |

Actually, buy 2 jars, because you will eat the whole first jar the day that you open it. They don't have the onion slices that they should, but they taste *perfect*. (I have 2 or 3 jars left of pickles I made last year that are almost just like 'em, with the proper amount of onion, but mine are a little too salty.) Best regards, Bob |

Watchyerse'f. I've got a perfectly good B&B pickle recipe that Edrena can use and maybe add a chili pepper to, if she wants. Harummpphh! Nita hasn't won a blue ribbon for her B&B's for quite a while. How is it I know this, you ask? I've won the blue ribbon four years of the last five (the last 3 consecutive blues put me out of that competition for two years). BTW, you can get my Gedney stuff (OK, all the other State Fair recipes, too) online now!! Hurrah! www.gedneypickle.com, then click on the mybrandsinc.com link to go to the Gedney products page. The State Fair stuff is maybe 2/3 of the way down, IIRC. They're pretty reasonably priced when you figure the shipping. I love spicy *hot* B&B pickles. Some years ago I made a batch of my usual B&Bs and just started adding chiles 'til I liked the way they "looked". A very hot pickle, but also very tasty. -- Wayne Boatwright *¿* _____________________________________________ A chicken in every pot is a *LOT* of chicken! |

Pity. > Seems like I saw the jam or something at the military commissary. Bein' feds, they sometimes buy from smaller companies. Dunno. Wednesday is shopping day, the world awaits... My food trip in SF: hopped a military flying freighter to SF, hitchhiked into SF, told cabbie to take me to the best chinese place. He took me to the wharf, ate one chicken wing, leetle pile of glass noodles, leetler pile of veggies, one drink. $20. WHew! (1977) Next day, ate breakfast downtown at the Polynesian Coffee Shop, diner atmosphere, couldn't read menu, wasn't in English anyhow. Asked for plate of veggies & pork. Got huge platter of great eats and the best coffee I'd ever had. For $2.50. Go figure. Even after 30 years, I still remember that meal. Edrena |
