Way back last June, I saw 10 top tips for Tilia usage and
immediately wrote to them regarding one of the tips to make an infused oil (I think it was for garlic, coulda been some other herb). I got a response today, and thought it worth sharing. Email may not be the best way to get info in a hurry. ;> -----begin copy---- Thank you for contacting Tilia Direct, Inc., I apologize for the delay in answering your e-mail. We have requested that the tip regarding infused oils be removed from the website. The tips are submitted by our customers. They are intended to illustrate the many uses for the FoodSaver products and as a vehicle for sharing tips among customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us through our toll free number, 1-800-777-5452. Our hours are 8 am - 8 pm Monday thru Friday, and 9 am - 6 pm Saturday, Eastern Time. Sincerely, Tim Evans Tilia Consumer Services ------end copy----- Cool, a company who cares. Maybe sometime they will list that making infused oils is *not* a good use for the Tilia. Copied here for people like me who have slow connections... ;< ----------begin copy------- Tip #2 A New Use for Summer Herbs from your Garden Use the bottle stopper attachment to make tasty infused olive oil! Just add fresh rosemary, basil or your favorite herbs to a bottle of olive oil. Use the FoodSaver with the bottle stopper and you will instantly have wonderful oil infused with flavor that would cost twice as much if you bought it at the store. --------end copy------- Fresh herb has water in it. When infused in oil and kept anaerobic it is a great breeding ground for botulism. You can't see, smell or taste botulism, but it can kill all the same. Does seem just a bit tardy. I wonder if enough people contacted them about it that ol' Tim has been writing these replies since last June ;-). Ross |
