Default Thai Donuts

Thai Donuts

submitted by ron_west
Pa Thong Ko

3 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup water
1 tsp baking ammonia (or substitute baking powder)
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp granulated sugar
1Tbsp vegetable oil

Mix baking soda, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add water and stir well.
Add this mixture to the all purpose flour, then stir lightly (don't
over-stir). Add vegetable oil then mix well until well combined. Cover
with thin fabric such as a kitchen towel se aside for 4 hours at room
temperature. Heat oil in a wok or frying pan. Sprinkle, lightly, flour
over work surface. Place about a hand-full of dough on work surface.
Shape it into a long shape, press or roll it out to about one half inch
thick. Cut it to small pieces (about 3 inches long); dab a bit of water
in the middle of each piece. Press two pieces together at center; drop to
hot oil and fry it until it rises and is golden brown in color.

Recipe Notes: Deep-fried dough stick is called Pa Thong Ko in Thailand.
In the morning you can easily find them being made by street vendors and
they're very inexpensive.
