1/4 cup red or white onion, chopped
1/2 cup tomato paste
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups canned diced tomatoes
2 fresh jalapeno peppers, finely minced (optional)

Place tomatoes, onions, tomato paste, water, garlic powder, cilantro,
cumin, salt and sugar in a blender or food processor. Puree until smooth.
Add remaining measure of tomatoes and mix until blended. (Fresh, diced
