Old Fashioned Vanilla Frosting

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup shortening
12 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup chopped walnuts -- if desired
1/4 cup crushed pineapple -- drained, if desired.

Cook together until thickened, 1/2 cup milk and 2 Tbsp. flour, then cool
completely. Beat together 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup shortening and 1/2 cup
sugar until well blended, add the cooled flour mixture, 1 tsp. vanilla and
beat until smooth (about 10-15 minutes)
