Deep Dish Pizza
1/4 ounce package active dry yeast 1 cup warm water (105 - 115 degrees F) 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil (I use olive) 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 4 Tablespoons tomato sauce 4 ounces or 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded Optional Toppings (mix & match): sliced fresh mushrooms (any variety) sliced black olives sliced pepperoni chopped pepper (red and/or green) chopped onion cooked ground sausage, beef, or turkey extra cheese (any kind) Heat water to 100 - 115 degrees F. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar, salt, oil, and flour; beat vigorously for 20 strokes by hand. Let dough rest for 5 minutes. Spray with Pam or grease bottom only of 13 x 9 x 2 inch oblong dish. Sometimes I use a vented round pizza pan. Press dough evenly on bottom and halfway up sides of dish. Spread tomato sauce evenly on bottom part of dough; top with any of the optional toppings, then sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over top. Cook in 425 degree (F) oven until cheese is light brown, about 20 to 25 minutes. Serves 4 nicely with a salad. |
