Baked Apples with Walnuts
Makes 6 servings Ingredients: 6 sweet apples 6 tablespoons brown sugar 1/2 to 2/3 cup of finely chopped walnuts cinnamon and nutmeg 6 teaspoons butter 2/3 cup hot apple juice or cider frozen vanilla yogurt, ice cream, or whipped cream Preparation: Core apples carefully so that the cavity is a decent size, but do not cut all the way through the bottom of the apple. Put 1 tablespoon sugar in each apple, then divide walnuts evenly between the apple cavities. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over the walnuts, and add a teaspoon of butter to each cavity. Set the apples in an oven-proof baking dish and pour hot cider or juice around the apples. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until tender, basting occasionally. Serve with a little dollop of frozen yogurt, ice cream or whipped cream. |
