Default is the check for me ?

Usually when I pay by credit card, I leave the restaurant's receipt copy
(signed with tip) at the table. I take my copy of the receipt and the check
with me. Is this wrong? Am I supposed to leave the check at the table? Does
it matter? Thanks.

I have no idea, but I always leave the check and I make sure the signed
receipt is picked up by the waitperson before I leave because its too
easy for another customer to grab that receipt and misuse my credit card
information. If you're really curious, just ask the next time you dine
out.

Yes it is. Usually it shows the sales tax, but the credit card receipt does
not. Most places require by law a merchant to give you a receipt that shows the
tax.

I leave the check at the table along with the signed merchant's copy of the
receipt. As someone else mentioned, it is a good idea to make sure it's
picked up before leaving just to avoid any confusion.
