A good inexpensive starter you can buy on the Internet is=20 Mr. Baker's. They ship quick. Is it a true SF starter? Well, they say so. http://www.yankeegrocery.com/sourdough%5Fbread.html =20 There are others. But that is the best one you can buy, unless you want one which is free and not sworn to be SF. Or you can follow "Bob". He is making his own down there in Texas. --=20 Dick Adams <firstname> dot <lastname>at bigfoot dot com |

I like that book. Once you get past some silliness about how to make a starter from scratch with yeast and other odd things, there is 32 pages of fairly dense information . There are recipes for just about anything you might want to bake with sourdough and some things that you shouldn't. For five bucks you get more good information and fewer lies than you can find in books costing many times that amount. Other authors have padded out less actual information with lies and nonsense to get more pages and justify a big price tag. It is not a bad book for an absolute beginner. It is probably the best value out there until someone from here writes a newcomers guide. Regards, Charles -- Charles Perry Reply to: ** A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand ** |

![]() gw, (or may I call you g for short), Are you thinking of the Goldrush brand sourdough starter packets. I still see them at my local health food store. I can nab one for you or I can get the address. However, the "Mr. Baker" that was recommended works great. That is the starter I use most of the time because it is reliable and a little more assertive in rising. Ed Bechtel |
