Tapes for sale, don't know how to find buyers...
 

Hi all,

I have come into ownership of 1500 or so VHS video tapes, all the
same. They are all new and I'm trying to figure out how to market
them. The title is "How To Create Sushi", and as you might imagine,
is a 90 minute video on how to aquire ingredients, tools and so forth,
and use them to make your own Sushi at home...

I agreed to take ownership of the tapes because I have loved Sushi for
many years and couldn't imagine anything easier to sell. I started a
few auctions on Ebay, figuring they would fly off the shelves. I
thought they would make great Christmas presents. Nobody seems to
want them.

Any ideas?

I hope I'm not posting improperly. If I did, I'm truly sorry. I'm
really not trying to get you folks to buy my tape although honestly, I
woudln't mind if you did ;-). I'm just trying to ask the Sushi
experts where the market is for this tape.

I'll give you my view, even though I know it's personal and not everyone
will agree with me. I've been eating sushi for over 50 years, since the
first Japanese restaurants serving sushi opened in New York City. I've never
made my own sushi, and I have no interest in doing so, so I wouldn't be
interested in your video tapes.

Sell them at flea markets for a buck. At one time sushi was magical and
mysterious. Now, not so much. In either case I'm not sure making
sushi at home is any more appealing that breeding dogs at home. Lots
of people have and enjoy dogs, but they don't really want to make a
hobby of the process.

My personal view that such instructional videos at best can give
only the most basic of introductions and has value only to the extent of
giving a
person some "idea" of how sushi is made. Nevertheless I admit there has been
a market for such things. However today, you can find multiple versions of
such instructional videos on youtube for free. Plus, from my own experience
VHS tapes even if in good clean condition show quality deterioration in
10-15
years.You could concievably convert them all to DVD but I doubt you'll get
your
money back. My opinion- sell them for whatever you can get. Otherwise they
are trash.

True. A good reason to make all credit card purchases
between say 10:00pm and 6:00 AM invalid.
Orders placed at such hours don't register until the next morning anyway by
which time the consumer has had time to rethink the purchase. And/or sober
up.
