Default National Sushi Month

Believe it or not, my wife tells me (on Oct 28) that she read somewhere =
that it is "National Sushi Month" in Japan.
Obviously one of those "National something months" that
no one knows about until its over.
However, I did find out that a few sushi places in Manhattan
were doing sales during October.

NOVEMBER is national Sushi Month.

Kirin Gears Up For First Annual
National Sushi Month In November

Kirin Brewery of America, the U.S. division of Kirin Brewery =
Company, Ltd., one of Japan's leading breweries and a top ten global =
beer marketer, is spearheading the first annual "National Sushi Month" =
in November 2003.=20

Kirin has selected November for this festive event, as Japan's =
traditional National Sushi Day is celebrated on November 1, marking the =
peak of the Japanese seafood season and rice harvest. In Japan, many =
trades have a commemoration day like Sushi Day to promote sales of each =
product or service. All Japan Sushi Federation selected November 1 as =
Sushi Day many years ago.

"Our goal is to develop an annual promotion that will help =
restaurants and food stores that sell sushi to have an ownable, =
month-long holiday event that will promote sushi consumption among all =
Americans," noted Randy Higa, Director of Sales and Marketing at Kirin =
Brewery of America.

Kirin made the move to launch this annual event, as the company's =
smooth beer varieties, Kirin Ichiban, Kirin Lager and Kirin Light, are =
the perfect accompaniment to delicate flavors of sushi.

To foster awareness at participating restaurants and food stores =
for "National Sushi Month", Kirin has designed eye-catching =
point-of-sale materials and developed attractive customer giveaway =
programs. New York-based Tipton & Maglione, the promotion marketing =
firm, which manages the event, is in the process of planning other =
events throughout 2004 to further support the growing U.S. demand for =
sushi.

"Sushi has been experiencing considerable growth over the past =
several years," says Martin Maglione, CEO of Tipton & Maglione, "And now =
is the time to expand the marketing effort into mainstream America."=20

Most sales promotions by manufacturers are executed in order to =
promote their own brands. But Kirin is trying to expand their business =
indirectly by promoting the entire sushi trade. Their strategy is unique =
and remarkable.=20

At one time a "tradition" implied something that had occurred for a
long time. The above reminds me of the beginning of the notice that
greeted the first class when the US Air Force Academy opened.

"The following are the traditions of the Academy."
