Sushi (alt.food.sushi) For talking sushi. (Sashimi, wasabi, miso soup, and other elements of the sushi experience are valid topics.) Sushi is a broad topic; discussions range from preparation to methods of eating to favorite kinds to good restaurants. |

I'm considering going to Sea to You this Saturday and was wondering
what opinions and experiences people here have of this place. Your advice and recommendations are appreciated! I also have three questions: 1. From asking around at various Japanese restaurants and markets in the area, I get the impression that most get their fish from True World Foods. Are these two places selling fundamentally different fish? (For example, salmon at Sea to You is from Canada. Where is the salmon in restaurants coming from?) 2. Will going on Saturday get me the scraps left over from restaurant orders during the week? Sea to You is not open on Sunday. 3. What alternatives are there to Sea to You? I just got off the phone with them and for what it's worth, here's what they told me: Open to retail only one day per week, Saturday 9-3. Their salmon is from Canada. Boneless and skinless: $9.99/lb, otherwise: $6.99/lb Yellowtail, center cut (?): $16.95/lb Closest subway stop: World Trade Center, Silver Line. Walk to Northern Ave, turn right, go a block and through a gate to get to the pier. Peter sashimi sashimi-grade sushi sushi-grade boston buy buying where |

I had an early morning visit to Sea To You with Walter Rhee, and noted many ice packed containers being loaded with fish to go out to the Japanese restaurants. I don't recall all the names, but Jae's was one of them. > 2. Will going on Saturday get me the scraps left over from restaurant > orders during the week? Sea to You is not open on Sunday. Yes and no. Go early, as you'll have more of a selection. The restaurants get the better cuts. So the stuff you'll be offered aren't scraps, but aren't the best quality cuts. > 3. What alternatives are there to Sea to You? Local asian markets like Kotobuyki in Porter Exchange, Yoshi's in Central Scare, Reliable Market in Union Square.. etc. > I just got off the phone with them and for what it's worth, here's what > they told me: > > Open to retail only one day per week, Saturday 9-3. > > Their salmon is from Canada. I would like to know the prices for all their offerings. You can get boneless salmon at Reliable for $6.99/#. Or at least that's what it was last time I bought it. -- Dan |

It's all that I asked; I didn't want to pepper him with questions. He said a website was under construction! > You can get > boneless salmon at Reliable for $6.99/#. How was it? $6.99/lb seems like a surprisingly low price, compared to Kotobukiya and Yoshinoya. Or is it not? (I called and they wouldn't tell me where they bought their salmon.) Peter |

Yes, they have several different fish at all the markets I mentioned. I have eaten the salmon raw from Reliable. It's good. They have a sampler pack with tuna, salmon, snapper, shrimp, and squid for like $25. -- Dan |
