Default I got my Teaspot Steepin' Mug

I got my red 16 ounce Teaspot Steepin' Mug today.

http://www.amazon.com/16-Ounce-Steep...0425170&sr=1-1

It's very very practical and effective. It brews tea pretty well. It's
convenient. The cup is the perfect size. The infuser is pretty big and
the little saucer/lid is convenient. It's attractive. The handle is
nice and big. Whoever designed this mug did it right. It seems fairly
durable. It should last a long time. I don't think I ever broke a
ceramic mug, except one cracked on its own one time. I love my steepin
mug. I just wish they made the 16 ounce size in more colors. I really
want a lime green one. I don't care much for black and blue. I might
get the 10 ounce lime green steepin mugs.

Those are actually a bit expensive and basic, you can find infuser
mugs all over the place that are cheaper and just as nice. If you have
an Asian market you can probably also find them there. Online tea
vendors generally sell them too. Bodum also makes a mug/infuser set
called the "yo-yo" which are excellent! I use them myself quite often.

They are a great start and allow a good balance of room for the leaves
and convenience. What's funny is that you will most likely begin to
decrease the size of the brewing vessel as you go and as the teas
become more expensive and delicate, 16oz will seem like a keg of tea.
The hardest thing to do in any new interest/hobby is to resist just
buying a ton of stuff... I think we've all been there though so it is
normal.

If you wanted to make another purchase though I would get a Chatsford
teapot from somewhere like Uptons as it will be the most versatile and
useful.

My cupboard always has an infuser mug, a gaiwan, a Yixing or four
(totally not necessary), and a set of cups as well as a regular and an
electric kettle. Pretty simple and basic. Only recently have I been
swapping out the gaiwan for a tea tasting set but again not needed.

Great to hear things are progressing!

I use mugs I got from a second hand store and cup infusers to get
something similar but less expensive. Nothing bright red or lime
green, though. My favorite mug is my "Grandma" mug. Toci

My favorites in that style are the Zylindro and the Duo at Zack USA:

The Duo in particular is good for the office when my colleagues come
begging for tea.

I got a pair of Hedleys I Love Grandpa and I Love Grandma mugs with
infuser and lid for a buck each at some discount store a couple of
years ago. These are equivalent to what you find in the Chinese
stores for $5. You put on some Logo like Hedleys Pure Ceylon Tea
Packed In Sri Lanka. The all porcelain pots with infusers were a dime
a dozen over the holidays and almost as cheap. I passed how many do I
need.

[Grasshopper] Yeah, I like it--perfect for the office when I have not
the time to brew as I ought. Bodum makes a similar pitcher-infuser
set. They're pricey, granted, but they work well, and I take pleasure
in them. I keep one at my mom's house too, for hong cha. Keeping
them clean and clear is a job.

I guess the Zylindro infuser sits on the lid also. I may have to
order that rig. The price seems right. Im in Chinatown yesterday and
got a YiXing mug with lid in a presentation box. At first Im looking
at some cups which were light brown which didnt impress me. Then I
noticed almost hidden the darker brown cups. Everyone got excited
when I started comparing ring tones between the two. They understood
the significance. I actually bargained in Mandarin and at the end got
the price way down for two at $15 each. There is nothing that beats
the smooth silky feel of YiXing clay material.

In my Chinatown they are in the porcelain stores. I got a Yixing
gongfu set about a year ago in a store which has since closed. This
one was just opening. They carried the same gongfu set so it must be
the same wholesaler. I threw in a couple of bad pictures from my new
cheap digital camera (fuzzy characters) of the front and back. I also
include the Nan Nou shu I got in SFC I wished I had more. Happy New
Year to you all.

PS I drew a blank this morning wondering what tea would wash down the
taste of cheap champagne.

The problem I have with the cups with ceramic inserts is that I
sometimes forget that it takes TIME for the brew to filter in and out.
Sometimes I'll lift the infuser and then put it back to "stir" the
brew a little. Sometimes a little too quickly, especially if I've
gotten used to using a stainless steel infuser which drains much more
quickly.

Sploosh right over the rim Been there. I used to use the ceramic
ones because they were all I could get locally and then one lucky day
I was at a Target and they were clearancing Bodum yo-yo mug/infuser
sets for $4 each and now I have a nice set of them. With the ceramic
ones it is all about finding one with a really deep infuser insert
that has holes of decent size all over including the bottom.

I actually lost a beloved laptop to a bad ceramic infuser mug
incident. Someone got me these green roundish (kinda like a squatty
mushroom) Korean infuser mugs. Due to the weird shape they would
create a suction holding the lid on tight, I went to take the lid off
and it hung up slightly and over the whole mug went because it was
roundish and right onto my old friend Thinkpad. He didn't survive even
after emergency surgery.

I hear ya. I haven't lost a laptop, but I have (more than once) been
absent-mindedly brewing a cup at work and let the infuser drop too
fast. I love my bodum stainless steel infuser. I can dunk it as
quickly as I want and the liquid doesn't overflow the cup.
