Default Confused about quanities

Ok, I bought a 72-pack of Red Rose Two Cup Tea Bags. This seems simple
enough. One tea bag for two cups. I look at the instructions, and it
says put ONE tea bag per serving into a warm pot or use your favorite
mug or cup. 72 bags, 227g, 3 grams a bag. Now, if I look at Twinnings
tea, there are 25 bags, 50g, 2 grams a cup.

So what are two cup tea bags? Are they 1 cup and a half? Are they 1
cup? Or are they 2 cups? Thanks a lot, this is very confusing to me.

The recent two cup teabag offerings from the major brands is 1
marketing and 2 convenience. You'll pay more to get more and reduce
your trips to the store considering other brands. Plus twice as much
sounds better. Other trends such as the health benefits may add to
the more is better. I think a two cup bag is a concession to the tea
user that single bags and cups weren't that convenient and the double
sized bags are better for the pot. Pots are in cups are out.

How much is enough depends on a number of things:

- The size of the cup or mug or pot
- The amount of tea in the tea bag
- The size of the tea particles (this can vary from dust-like to whole
leaves)
- The temperature of the water
- The amount of time you are steeping the tea

You can cross your eyes trying to calculate perfection or go with the
flow. My suggestion is to pick a particular brand of tea, the cup or mug
or pot in which you would like to brew it, and do a few experiments to
find what works best for you.

By the way, for whole-leaf tea (which is NOT what you will find in most
tea bags), typical brewing instructions range from 2.25g to 3g per 6
ounce (180 ml) tea cup of water. A typical mug may hold about twice as
much water. A tea bag filled with tea fannings may have much less tea
because the fannings have a lot more surface area and give up their
flavor to the water much more quickly and thoroughly compared to leaves
on the first steeping.
