It seems to me that I read somewhere, and I thought it was on this ng,
that the bergamot oil in Earl Grey has a taste of licorice.

I just tried an Earl Grey and there is definitely something, but I
don't detect exactly licorice.

Is it licorice or something else?

Bergamot is a citrus fruit. Never associated with licorice myself?

They use the oil from the peel. A bergamot is like an orange.
Orange peel is a little bitter, kind of like licorice.

It might depend on exactly what you're drinking. From what I've had, I'd
never call it licorice - just bergamot and whatever the base tea was.

Well, there may be one or two "concoctions" I would put ahead of Earl
Grey tea, but then I've just gotten into it. ;-)
