Hi guys.
I looked it the archives but my thick head is fuzzy. My question... is
the best of the two silkroad tea or silkroad teas is the source of the
grand and most marvelous teas you guys have spoken about. Are they
equal?. Do they have catalogs? I have looked at both web pages and they
both look pretty nice. But I think most of you buy from one more than
the other. Please tell me yall's preferences if you may please. I am
ready to try Keemum/Qiman for the first time.

The one with the "s" on the end is the one you've been reading about here.

As of November, they had a nice, robust Keemun in their low price slot
and a delicious, ethereal Mao Feng-style Keemun called Hong Tao or Red
Peach. I'm a sucker for most of their Phoenix oolongs, and their
Tongyu Mountain Green is a reliable inexpensive green tea.

I have problems with the one in San Rafael.
I returned teas, had to call again and again to get my money back.
People there are very polite and nice while having you on the phone. Do not
expect, however, for things to happen the way you are promised. I had teas
not sent to me because someone forgot. I still wait for the money for tea I
returned 4 months ago. I was also promised samples or replacement tea that
they acknowledge was bad and was promised to get replacements - never
happened. But again - cannot accuse them of being impolite or anything.
The owner - David - hates computers and is very proud of that. So they do
not have a web site or sell over the net. The lack of computers also make it
easier to "forget" things, I guess. You have to remember what you ordered,
so keep detailed records and compare teh shipments with your records.
Davis is a very knowledgable guy and truly loves what he does and some of
the teas I bought from them were very good. However some were so bad that I
suspect that he may also be at mercy of his suppliers rather than buying
according to his own judgement.

Ned, David's newer partner has started a meager website and promises
to enhance it in the future. Currently there is little more than a
price list and that price list is by no means complete.

The other one specializes in flavored and aroma therapy stuff, which they
might be quite good at, if that is your wont. For real tea, the one with the
"s" on the end is the one you want, as Lew suggests above.

Then there's yet another, http://www.silkroadtrade.com (higher-end) and
eBay store (cheaper stuff, IIRC). Reasonable deals on mid-grade Yixing
pots, especially in bulk. Haven't tried their teas. As someone here
pointed out, it's a fairly common trade name.

And there is yet another in the long line - cybersilkroad.com

They have an astonishing number of v. interesting looking
teas, reasonably priced. But I have had a bad experience
with them, and do not patronize them anymore..............p*

Thanks for the info. I did think the aroma stuff was kinda hokey for a
quality tea site. All of you thank you.
I love phoenix also so much. There are so many oolongs many....you
know.
Is keeman the malty one, or is yunnan gold. How are they alike? Or
Different? I know there are many of you guys that know this info
because I think most of you are pretty expert in tea.
Again I will ask for your input.

Keemun's the chocolaty one, to my taste buds. Yunnan gold can have
smoky, peppery, and sweet maple components, sometimes all at once.
When I think of malt, though, I think of Assam.
