Vegan (alt.food.vegan) This newsgroup exists to share ideas and issues of concern among vegans. We are always happy to share our recipes- perhaps especially with omnivores who are simply curious- or even better, accomodating a vegan guest for a meal!

Those interested in Low Carb with High Fat are invited to join a Yahoo group
of like minded folk.

Susan Powter was wrong. I could have sold her books and tapes on eBay, but
I decided to toss them in the trash.

This Yahoo group has about 50 members and has recently had some good
interactive support.

Check out our Links section.

The Links and even the recent posts can be viewed without signing up.

You guys will probably mess up your gallbladders, as well as get
atherosclerosis. Consider also that animal fats tend to bioaccumulate the
most toxins.

good luck, you will need it...

This group is your territory, so please excuse my presence. I have been on
the receiving end of vegan spamming, so it helped me rationalize posting
here. There are many ex-vegans around, and I thought that my invitation
might just be what someone needed. (We gained 7 new members this week.)

There are those that believe low fat causes gallstones.

On atherosclerosis, if you do not eat cholesterol, the body makes its own,
which is supposed to be worse. Also, the 150 year old theory that eating
cholesterol leads to the cholesterol build up of atherosclerosis in looking
like an old wives tale.

How is your B12?

My point is that both sides cherry pick studies to show they are right.

Weight loss is *all* that counts. Don't worry. Atkins came and went.
Then Susan Powter came and went. Now Atkins is back. He'll go again and
then it's low-fat time again. ;-)

Yahoo has a zero tolerance policy of people advertising their yahoo
groups in inappropriate and unsolicted places.

Yahoo will often delete the yahoo group in question without discussing
it with the list owner

If anyone wishes to lodge a complaint this the url to do it at:
http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/abuse/cgi_abuse

Cheers
John

Pseudoscience. This is rubbush and not a source of credible information.

"Saturated fats were a risk factor for gallstone formation and the
association appeared to be stronger for men than for women. ... In
particular, a high intake of saturated fats and refined sugars may increase
the risk of gallstone formation ... " -

Saturated fat intake raises cholesterol, so does directly consuming
cholesterol. Cholesterol that has been exposed to air, cooking or other
processing is bad news. http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/pr/2000/000404.htm

Fine.

> My point is that both sides cherry pick studies to show they are right.

There are no studies showing a low fat vegan diet causes atherosclerosis or
elevated risks of gallstones. There are for high fat diets. Use credible
primary literature, not articles written by ignorant and politically
motivated fools. Name one suitably qualified scientist of medicine or
nutrition who thinks high fat/cholesterol doesn't raise your risk of CVD.

You'll find a good number of vegan professors working in nutrition (I can
name a few), and I bet none doing Atkins nor anything like it. Go figure.

best regards,
John
